Spurs already started with their new regional type approach....
But too many simple minded people thinking that was an omen to them leaving. Come on.
Huh??
Kidd was easily the second best player in that series (regardless of team, after Duncan) and Parker was benched most of the time in favor of Speedy f**king Claxton.
Kidd ran Parker off the court, just like Marbury and Nash did before him in that year's playoffs 20 years ago
if not for the backup PGs in Claxton and Kerr, Parker probably gets traded, Kidd's a Spur, and Duncan and Kidd win a couple more les and that's about it

That tells me he is here to stay. Even after rookie and second contract as long as Spurs don’t it up. He genuinely wanted the Spurs.
That's the whole point, genius troll.
Spurs not only have the luck of tanking in a year with a generational talent but one that actually really wanted to be a spur. Lmao wow.
lmao been a minute since I’ve seen that gif plastered all over this site![]()
You can see the genuine excitement in his face as well as the shock and happiness in his mother’s when they realize Spurs got the first pick. They knew this is exactly what Wemby wanted. He wanted to be a Spur. He spoke it into existence. He said immediately afterwards during his interview with Brian Windhorst that this was the universe’s doing. As fate would have it. Spurs are incredibly fortunate to have this all come together the way it did tbh. Like insanely lucky. Wild.
Yeah it seems to be destiny but no way the NBA wanted that, so I do not see a rigged draft lottery.
Man, we will have much more nationally televised games next season.
There's a lot of selective memory about the 2003 team.
Tony did intermittently struggle but he was a very small 20 year old going against for the most part very mature larger players
That said he still the second leading scorer for the team in the playoffs and the finals scoring 16,21 26,3,14,4
Speedy in the Finals 2,5,4,10,3,13
For the most part the Spurs as a whole intermittently struggled in the Playoffs that year. It was prime Duncan, and an aging Admiral with a lot of green players.
But going back to the main point in retrospect Tony, and Manu where right in calling out nephew. Tony publicly, but IIRC Manu was sort of the lead in the private meeting who asked for clarity on when he was coming back. This and Victor shows that the Big 3 (and Pop) are continuing to have an impact on the team
Butterfly effect, tbh.
Ha ha yes
Lol, they both look so French.
from the Ringer
Winner: Victor Wembanyama
This could’ve gone in so many different directions for Wemby, with a slew of dysfunctional organizations stumbling over themselves all year long and punting games, culture, and good habits in an attempt to maximize their odds of landing one of the greatest prospects of all time.
Instead of slogging through his first few seasons in Houston, Charlotte, or Detroit, Wembanyama gets to spend his formative years as a student under Gregg Popovich, the greatest coach in NBA history. He’ll be placed in a no-nonsense environment where basketball is the priority every day, with Hall of Famer Manu Ginóbili in his ear whenever extra words of advice are necessary.
The Spurs were very bad this year, but they didn’t cut corners. Other organizations did, exchanging consistent effort and sensible game plans for more Ping-Pong balls. They also have a solid, young core—led by Keldon Johnson, Jeremy Sochan, and Devin Vassell—that was just begging to revolve around a franchise big man like Wembanyama.
The Spurs won’t be terrible for very long. They have max cap space, five incoming first-round picks from other teams (including two that are unprotected from the Hawks), and a presumable desire to win sooner rather than later. San Antonio won the lottery, but in so many ways, so did Wemby.
Not sure how you’re getting all that from the Parker gif but ok

Silver and the NBA don't realize the respect other countries have for the Spurs, their tradition of winning, their humility and how they manage their business. They promote the showboat prima donnas when they should be promoting a team that just goes about their business and wins fvcking championships.
I'm actually happy the team is taking on a more international composition
