The kid will have a great career. Hopefully it's with the Spurs. He has intangibles both defensively and offensively that a 3-5yr 2-way player would have. He'll only develop from here.
Why do you say "hopefully it's with the Spurs"? You don't think he'll stick around, or you think the Spurs won't keep him?

Did Steph do more than the box score says he did tonight? It kinda feels like his impact was a little bigger than it looks on the sheet. Wish he had notched a couple of those 3s though.
I think real good especially towards the end with Malaki and Blake depending and making it a game. His ability to take it to the rim with contact is way ahead of his age. Already he’s earning his trips to the line. He’s just gonna get even stronger. I can’t wait.

He seems so advanced for where he is at. With him and Wemby, it should get very businesslike and victory-minded around The Rock at La Cantera. Gonna be a good decade, so assuming everything looks as it seems.

He makes good decisions in both the micro and the macro, the best of which was Go To UConn. That’s the reason he’s so advanced, going to a school where he can learn, not just show out. It’s also the reason I will keep an eye on Liam McNeely, only the second McDonalds AA player to select UConn, Castle being the first. He’s a sweet shooting SF who might be available in our (or Atlanta’s) draft range if neither pick jumps into the top 4.

Castle as stated is showing a bread and butter capability to constantly get to the lane and the line. That makes him an asset in the league on both ends immediately. The determinant of whether he becomes and all star is his shooting.

    Except for Wemby,

Castle has got to be the best Spurs rookie in a long, long time

    i watched the game again

Castle was with the second stringers when they obtained the lead

He was with the fun third stringers when they sustained the lead

Castle has the win gene within him............
Well, he’s the 5th Highest Draft Pick in Spurs history. Two of the 4 higher are HOFers and Top 25 Players. Another is a Legend with his number retired. The other is his current teammate.

In other words… I sure ing hope he’s the best Spurs rookie besides Wemby in a long time.

Steph is good at basketball and is very savvy with the media to be so young. Nice building block

I'm not remembering, but who is the other high draft pick?

Edit : I'm guessing Sean Elliott is who you were referring to as the Edit 2 : I meant Legend with his number retired.

Yeah, I really like his game so far. Seems very advanced for his age. I love that he can get to the rim and draw fouls while also being able to play make. I hope he can do that in the regular season, and I also hope his jump shot starts going in and he's a decent shooter with the potential to get even better.

As for the PTSD, I guess I do still have a bit of that.

The two HOFers are Robinson and Duncan, while the "Legend with his number retired" is Elliott. The last one is Wemby.

That's what I meant to say "Legend with his number retired". No idea how I stuffed up and wrote HOFer. Even if he's not a HOFer, he's definitely a legend to me and a lot of other people/Spurs fans.

I think she was intending to throw shade at TP, Leonard, and Manu.

My knowledge of college ball isn't that deep, but my impression has always been that everyone who comes out of Uconn can undeniably hoop and handle themselves well on the business/corporate/persona/public opinion end. They probably do have great structure for actual personal development, along with learning the game.

Their history since acquiring Dan Hurley as coach is a bit more limited. He has improved their record every year since arriving in 2018 which is pretty crazy, not to mention the b2b Natl Championship run they are currently on. I wouldn't be surprised to see UConn become an even bigger hotbed of top talent in the next few years with Hurley being young and apparently not interested in any NBA jobs. The fact a top prospect like Castle chose UConn likely knowing he would have a more narrow role than most recruits of his stature than when they choose a "showcase" school who specializes in 1 and dones speaks volumes about Stephs character.

With Steph still being a top pick this year hopefully that will help embolden future likely 1 and dones to target winning programs instead of just choosing based on getting a high usage role at a middling school. Castle still had plenty of naysayers going into this draft (Nate Duncan iirc had him like 20th in the class lol) mostly because of a perceived lack of lead guard qualities and obvious shooting concerns and oddly enough some saying he was a sub par athlete.

A Fabbs front office, in addition to delivering year after year of Championship runs.....

Would demand Castle get his hair cut or wear that thing other then a birds nest.

It already has. Liam McNeely, a 6’7” sweet shooting SF who was ranked about the same as Castle was, and is also a McDonalds AA, has chosen UConn, and is currently mocked #8 in the 2025 draft by TaT.

Castle is so polished for a 19 yrs old player….should be the best player coming out of this draft.

Gotta work on that jumper to really get to where he *can* go though.

Seems that the sky is the limit once he gets a three, because everything else looks ready.

I don't even see it as shade or an insult to TP, Manu or Kawhi. None of those guys were the #4 pick, and the two HOFers on that list were developmental flyer picks that turned out. No disrespect at all to either of them to expect Castle to be better out of the gates.

Now... will he end up with a career as good as those 3? Man, that would be amazing if he did! We can only hope! We need his 3ball to come around like Leonard's did though.

I just don't see a comparison with Reed Sheppard. Sheppard may become a nice connector and deep threat, but Castle is already looking like a hub. A ways to go, but when he drives, Houston was already having to collapse multiple players on him.

Have to admit, I wanted Reed over him. I still think both players will be the best two prospects in this draft though.
Hope Castle continues to grow. My only fear is that he is so polished that he has little room to improve.

i wanted reed over him as well. but i also liked castle as a G/F even more than i liked him as just being pigeonholed into the PG role. i had by doubts about the castle pick when i thought they would just jam him at PG and see if it worked out. i still think he can clearly grow into that role but looks like he can and will play all over, which is part of what drew me to castle to begin with
