Even if you somehow don’t think Vassell Sochan or Keldon have any value in our future rotation, you’d be silly to believe they also have little to no value in the trade market. Keeping all 3 was a massive win one way or another.

This … you don’t need to love any of these guys. It’s the fact that someone else may covet them in a trade and they have contract values (two of them at least) that can be valuable in matching. The Spurs kept 80% of their powder dry in a trade for a top 25 guy. They have plenty of it for the next move whatever it may be - either this season or in the offseason.
Obviously great trade for us, imo only gave up 1 real potential asset being the 2031 Minny pick which was the center piece of this deal. The '27 is literally the lowest value Spurs pick because Wemby + Fox will be prime and we still have the Atlanta '27, won't need two 1sts. The Bulls pick was likely to convey in the 9-15 range in '26 or '27, but we have picks both years. The Charlotte pick two seconds. We have dozens of 2nds which we often sale on draft day, so happy we are starting to put them to use. Collins was negative value, Tre + Siddy simply took up roster space with Fox on board. Great deal.

Sochan is absolute trash, any G-leaguer can avg 12/7.5/2.6/1 in 27mgp with extreme d versatility while fighting through injuries; may as well cut Champ and Bassey, no one would want 11/4/2 w/ above avg 3% in 25.5 or 4.5/4.5/1 in 11mpg locked into minimum deals. Pretty much worthless, trash
Or maybe Champagnie and Sochan have actual NBA value to nearly every team in the league as bona fide rotation players who can start or come off the bench and soak up 25-30+ min in any given game.
I know critical thinking is hard and its fun to be a short-sighted jackass, but any chance that Vassell looks better playing the #3 option or Sochan as the #5? Any chance Sochan, Keldon, Bassey and the rest of the bench play better with Paul leading the second unit instead of Tre?
Adding Fox as the #2 guy slots anyone down, will generate more and better looks from the 3, and let Paul carry the load and setup the 2nd unit the way he has been for the first unit, where he has elevated everyone. Some guys won't improve, but there's a good chance several have significantly more value come the offseason compared to yesterday due to Fox and the shift in roles.
& maybe sometimes 21, 22, 23, 24 year-olds improve with better talent around them and more appropriate roles.
A+ Trade, no question.
This will change the landscape for the other 3 starters, I believe. Fox is a player that requires a defensive game plan. No one outside of Wemby was getting that kind of attention on a nightly basis. Vassell and Castle should feast once they settle in together. Fox can beat most NBA players one on one and get to the hoop, that will cause new problems for opposing defenses. Can't wait to see this unfold.
Next items are a rebounding, defensive big when Wemby sits and an elite 3pt shooter or two.

Bettering the team. I especially like that Fox comes in on top of team, outside of Vic. Should be a wake-up call for Vassell, KJ and Champ. One of these 3 inconsistent amigos will lose considerable PT, unless they go ahead and trade one of them for some front court help. Thanks for the good thoughts.
You can find the big on the buyout market or in a small trade using 2nd's you can get two shooters in the draft and one of them should be Sergio De Larrea who's 6'6" and hitting 47% from 3. It doesn't hurt that he's a secondary ballhander type who can play PG minutes when needed.
This summer the Spurs need to make a run at Lauri. Ainge wont be motivated to sell like the Kings or Mavs so if the Spurs really want him it going to be at full price. He'd be the perfect third star.
IF the Jazz land Flagg, I could easily see the Markkanen Market open for business.

I don't think they're gonna trade him. Markannen is one of the few players who likes Utah and doesn't want out and they're tanking fine with him.

Nice balanced analysis, Timvp. I'm not even a huge fan of Fox, but it's still an A grade for me for the trade. At best, he fits well with Wemby (and Wemby raises Fox's efficiency) despite the relative slight shortcomings of below average 3pt%, FT%, and TS% and surprisingly average impact stats (career average 111 ORtg/115 DRtg, career average BPM of +0.9, career average of +0.6 on/off +/-), and at worst he's a great trade piece in the future. Any way you look at it, this is a great trade.

I wasn't a huge Fox fan and think he's overall a bit overrated. Also concerned about his at ude, but that seems to be fine. I think we'll face trouble in a few years when he's eating up a ton of salary and he's falling off, but worry about that later. The team clearly needed more talent, especially a bucket-getter. That Miami game was torture. I mean, we win if Wemby plays straight-up, but not having a guy who could score in the clutch was glaring.
I was against using too many assets for a maybe fit that gets more expensive as we go. A huge contract means lessened flexibility.
But, holy , they managed to get him for nothing but our 2027 pick, in a draft where we also have Atlanta's pick, and that 2031 Min pick that is so far out. The rest is completely inconsequential.
The FO managed to, once again, sniff out the needs of other teams and help leverage great team advantage to help all parties. I know Bulls fans are irritated, but they badly needed off LaVine's contract. The Kings get away with something pretty decent considering they are losing Fox anyway. This is like absorbing Reggie Bullock to get a swap purely out of cap space times about a hundred. Tre Jones is an expiring and wasn't really in the plans. Zach Collins needed to be dumped. The CHA pick and seconds are meaningless and the CHI is negligible.
Just an astounding bit of business really.
