Any elbow that strikes an opposing player above the shoulders (heretofore known as a "TMass") is supposed to be ejected from the game and suspended for an additional game. Apparently they added the second game because Kobe wasn't thrown out like he should have been.

Kobe deserved at least 5 games for that play considering he has been playing rougher lately.... Did anyone see his "purposeful" flailing arm that hit Nowitzki in the face. How about his derisive demeanor toward his teammates...

    What a punk.

He's supposed to be a finesse player not an enforcer or a thug...

As I understand it, it's an automatic suspension for each flagrant foul point assessed if you get, like, 6 of them. Kobe's got 2 Flagrant Foul points right now. Which now makes you wonder: Is the league suddenly going "Zero Tolerance" on Flagrant Fouls? I also know that a Level 2 Flagrant Foul is punishable by an automatic ejection. Kobe didn't get ejected because the refs called a Level 1 Flagrant against him. I guess the suspension is to make up for the lack of Kobe getting ejected after his flagrant was upgraded...

After the brawl at the palace my understanding was that there is an unwritten rule (or maybe it is written) that if the falgrant is commited as retaliation then the penalty is stiffer. Also, for as long as I can remember it seems to me that all flagrant fouls are automatically reviewed for adjustment of severity, be it up or down, and to correctly penalize the action in terms of suspension. I really doubt that the second game is a make-up call, it's just what the league thought was appopriate.

A sharp elbow to the throat can crush the ring cartilege, collapse the trachea, and kill someone.

It makes you wonder though. I've seen a lot of should have beens Flagarant Type 2 hits against Manu and even Parker. None of those players got suspended. Heck, during the playoffs last season, there were several serious ones against Manu in the Denver series...
The foul was upgraded because of Kobe's recent at ude. The Stu in Stu Jackson is not short for Stupid.

Carmelo's flagrant against Manu was not a flagrant 2, and 'melo got ejected and fined 7500 bucks for it.

I've heard that it takes only 13 lbs. of pressure to crush the trachea, Kobe should've gotten 10 games at least.

Like someone else said, he's a punk.

The thing is, Kobe doesn't seem as some hardcore thug with that demeanor (well, at least he doesn't come off that way publically).

If he tries that with the wrong person (somebody not afraid to fight back and can whoop his ass), Kobe will get knocked the out.

Can we sign Kevin Willis back?

I hope this thread gets put in the NBA section. If my "What Would Kobe Do?" thread gets moved there, this one should also. This is not Spurs, this is mother ing Kobe. Your just racist against me.

I think what a lot of people are missing is his comments after the game. I think that's what got him suspended more than the elbow - saying he'd do it to anyone who game down the lane, gotta protect their court, no means yes, yada yada yada...

But the Coyote is a mascot...how badass do you have to be to get thrown out of a game as a mascot....pretty bad ass I might say.
I want the wolf out of here. He's gone. Now.
That's the greatest thing I've ever heard. That's the kind of toughness that we have on this team. They were afraid of the Coyote, so they had to toss him. That was incredible.

His actually wasn't an opinion thread. It was a stupid photoshop picture relating to Kobe's rape case. It wasn't even basketball related. That's why I moved it out.

Do you guys really think Kobe aimed for Mike Miller's throat? Cmon man give me a break. What is he Rick Flair? He obviously went for his face and missed. It was stupid because his elbow was off that night just like his shot was off that night but yeah he could have seriously injured dude and now he's paying the price. Maybe you guys should watch the video again and think twice. Here's a link Mike Miller elbow on Kobe If someone hit me with one of those I would let him know I didn't appreciate it and if he had anything other to say about it than sorry I would lay him out too. I would have cracked him across the face though not give him a People's Elbow to the throat.
