I got burned on a 6800 GT card...

Arrived dead... manufacturer said they will fix or replace it so I sent it to them via RMA..

300 bucks down the toilet.. well maybe if it get's fixed...

And then the guy got 2-3 bad comments after I got my card.

When most of these people placed their bids the guy had great feedback, greater than 99%. He just screwed them all at once. Ebay found out about this on a Friday, but didn't tell the other bidders about it until the next monday. That's a lot of payments that went through in that time that could have been cashed. Also, a lot of people trusted him because he was an Ebay 'Power Seller'. Ass.

ETA: It was also odd that in one week he put 500 times more up for auction than any previous month before. I've been told that Ebay keeps an eye on that, but I haven't seen any concrete proof.

Have to wonder if the guy just wanted quick cash, or if his account was stolen. In other news, I never buy from people unless they have 98% or better on feedback, with at least 200 transactions.

Only shopped on ebay once...no problems. But I would NEVER buy from someone who didn't take PayPal. Just too risky.
Me, neither. I've bought a lot of stuff on eBay; both my sister and brother collect sports memorabilia (baseball, basketball, NASCAR, football, etc.) and eBay is an excellent source for that type of thing. I have made some outstanding deals on there and have bought stuff from people all over the world (even Hong Kong). I never had a problem, always paid immediately as soon as an auction ended and had a great reputation until last November. I bid on a Serta counting sheep (#1/2 - it's a "kid" with braces, very cute!). I was bidding on several items at once and I didn't notice the guy didn't take PayPal until I'd already bid. I sent him a money order on 29 October and never received my item. He put up bad feedback on me. I have not bid on anything or won any auctions in awhile, so that bad feedback is sitting there at the top of my feedback page. I hate it. I could kick myself for bidding on something from a seller who does not accept PayPal. Even though they always give you that old sob story about it costing them money to use PayPal, I always just feel like there has to be a good reason they don't, they have had or caused some kind of problem with PayPal and been kicked out. I have never sold anything on eBay, but I plan on doing so at some point, have my seller's account all set up. I will definitely accept PayPal if and when I put up my first auction.

When most of these people placed their bids the guy had great feedback, greater than 99%. He just screwed them all at once.
I noticed that tons of the feedback entries are for 18 and 19 December.

I have fraud protection on my debit card. I wonder if that would protect someone in such situations?

Probably Ed, but I don't think they took credit cards either. And I don't think it's a case of the account being stolen, these people packed up and took off.

they're probably overseas by now, $30K is enough to set up a homestead abroad, right?

If ebay was smart they would guarantee everyone's money. $30k is peanuts compared to the loss goodwill they stand to lose if everyone is stiffed.

The guy had a few negatives before that, which would have made me not want to risk buying something from him. The seller was even rude in his replies to negative feedback he received! When it comes to big purchases on Ebay, I don't settle for any feedback rating less than 99%.

I sent back the Julius Jones jersey to the person because it was the wrong one and I wanted a refund. It said on my moms credit card that it was never refunded. So when she gets the final statment if it is still charged to my moms credit card, we are going to tell ebay and if they dont do anything about it then take them to court. I have all the information and everything, so they're pretty much screwed if they dont refund the money.

    Blue state or red state?

    That's all that matters.
