And so the truth emerges. The Spurs were willing to extend Mohammed this past summer. They also sought to dump Rasho for Abdul-Wahad's partly guaranteed contract. As long as Rasho remained on the books, the Spurs couldn't give Mohammed what he wanted, instead opting for a lowball offer. No trade for Rasho materializes and the Spurs forget about extending Mohammed. They punt that issue to next summer. Maybe they can unload Rasho's contract at some point inbetween.
This season the Spurs around with Mohammed with the hopes that it will lower his price next summer. If he gets a fat offer, they waive goodbye and deal with the center position with Rasho, Oberto and foreign properties.
