Come on, hold on to that lead Canada!![]()
a loss, it's all good
they should still advance to the next round, cuz clemens will own south africa
i have faith that willis won't be the next time out
Utley was so close to hitting a 3-run HR and giving USA the lead in which they would win the game.
It came up few yards shortI guess it wasn't their day today
Well if Mexico beats Canada it will be a 3-way tie at 2-1
then isn't it down to whoever has scored the most runs?
good thing usa shutout mexico that first game
I have no idea, they were talking about it during the game. That there is many specific stuff that go through on tie breakers.
You lost to Canada?![]()
You guys better not get eliminated because I want to see 843-year-old Al Leiter try to complete an inning versus the best lineup ever assembled.
Canada?![]()
Well obviously they must be pretty good if they beat the USA.
That dude is ing solid, he shut down the USA line-up.21-year-old Baltimore Orioles prospect Adam Loewen will lead a group of young pitchers into Canada’s second World Baseball match-up against the United States this afternoon.
The 6’5”, 225-pound left-hander will start the game on the mound for Canada, who is 1-0 after defeating South Africa Tuesday night in Scottsdale, Arizona.
“Adam has a lot of talent coming out of that arm,” said Canadian Manager Ernie Whit of the fourth selection in the 2001 MLB draft. “He’s got tremendous stuff and the Americans have never seen him before, so I’m confident he can go out there and do very well.”
Poor Canada.

U.S. team gets right result with Mexico's win over Canada
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Johnny Damon and his U.S. teammates had a hard time figuring out exactly what needed to happen for the Americans to advance in the World Baseball Classic.
It was complicated -- and it all worked out fine for the U.S. team on Thursday night when Mexico scored four runs in the top of the first inning of a 9-1 victory over Canada.
"This tiebreaker stuff, you've got to go to school for it," Damon, the New York Yankees' latest superstar addition, said in the Scottsdale Stadium dugout before a workout earlier in the day. "I thought there would be a clear-cut winner and a clear-cut loser. ... It's definitely a weird feeling."
After losing to Canada 8-6 in a first-round game Wednesday night, Team USA's fate Thursday was in the hands of the Canadians and Mexicans.
If Canada had won and the United States defeated South Africa on Friday, the Americans would reach next week's second round in Anaheim, Calif. Even if the U.S. team were to lose to South Africa, it would have to get beat by more than seven runs because Team USA has the tiebreaker against Mexico after its 2-0 win Tuesday.
Even with Mexico's win, Team USA could move on because Mexico scored at least three runs. Mexico ended that suspense with four straight doubles off Canada starter Jeff Francis to take a 4-0 lead.
The three-way tiebreaker is based on runs allowed.
In this odd system, the United States would've been eliminated -- before it played South Africa -- if Mexico had beaten Canada by scores of 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1.
It made for a tense day for the U.S. squad, with most players making plans to monitor the game.
"Most guys are reflecting on the tiebreaker scenario -- 'What's the scenario?' Obviously we never talked about the tiebreaker scenario before the tournament," manager Buck Martinez said. "We have to win and get some help. These are the perils of international play."
Roger Clemens is set to pitch for Team USA on Friday at Scottsdale Stadium, though most players on the team wished they could play again Thursday and get a chance to bounce back from the demoralizing performance against Canada.
Martinez compared the feeling to losing a playoff game in October.
"It was almost worse," reliever Joe Nathan of the Minnesota Twins said. "It's like this feeling that you just let a whole lot of people down. I know for myself, I don't want to feel that way again."
Damon believes South Africa, an inexperienced team featuring some teenagers, might head home thrilled to say it faced The Rocket before he called it a career.
"As bad as it sounds, being struck out by Roger Clemens is not a bad thing," Damon said with a grin.
The 43-year-old Clemens doesn't plan to go easy on anybody -- even if South Africa is probably way overmatched.
"As far as pitching inside, if our report says that some guy can't handle the ball inside and you can get them out that way, of course you'd pitch inside," said Clemens, who sounds like he's leaning toward retirement. "I wouldn't be here at the (WBC) if I didn't feel like I could compete and compete at a high level. I wanted to make sure I was ready for this. ...
"But, you know, I don't see myself starting this season unless something really, really kicks to where I get that edge. I'm just trying to fade away a little bit."
Maybe now they'll open up the river...
That loss against Canada will wake up USA, I feel sorry for everyone else
This is funny, USA, Mexico and Canada all finish 2 and 1 but Canada is the team to not advance even though they beat USA?what a joke! That said i'm pulling for USA i just don't understand how this stupid tournament works.
