    Update

I'm so sad right now. I called the dog pound across from the zoo and they had my cat. I was so excited to hear that I was going to go pick her up. When I got there it was another cat and the guy said that I was a day late.
My cat was put to sleep yesterday morning.

I feel like this is all my fault for not calling them first but I thought Kit-Kat was out and about...
That's so sad ... I'm surprised they didn't keep her a little longer since it's pretty obvious when they're nursing It's not your fault though, cats disappear for no reason all the time when they can go outside. I hope you're doing okay.

A neighbor trapped your cat and called animal control. That's how it works. I was a Fort Worth Animal Control Officer ( ing dog catcher) for a while when I first moved to the Metroplex and we never bothered chasing stray cats. No Animal Cotrol Dept. in any city does that. We would issue traps to citizens, they would set the traps and catch cats and possums and then call us to come pick them up. 78% of the animals that get picked up get put to sleep.

My heart is aching for you. I have tears in my eyes. I'm going to go home and hug my cat Dudley when I get off work. This is so sad. I know it's not the same and little compensation now, but at least you have the kitties.

That may be true in Ft. Worth, but I used to live in an apartment complex here, and I sat in my car one day and watched the Universal City animal control chase the loose cats in the complex. Most all of them were very tame because they were "community cats" and everyone took care of them and fed them. They chased and caught seven cats that day, using the collar that they can close up. They caught two of them by chasing them inside the pool fence and knocking them into the water. In that case animal control was called by the complex management and THOSE CATS WERE CHASED. I watched for almost three hours. I don't know how long they had already been there chasing those poor things when I got home.

That's not necessarily true - it totally depends on your neighborhood. I've been cautioned by my neighbors not to let my cat out because they've picked up residents' cats on numerous occasions - they also used to chase cats in my last apartment complex.

SA's animal control is more determined than the ones in DFW I guess or they were just trying to scare residents into keeping their felines contained. The boss man never wanted us to "waste our time trying to catch stray cats because it's impossible, trap em instead". Too fast and the ability to climb fences and walls makes them hard targets.

No one was trying to "scare residents into keeping their felines contained" on the day I watched them round up those cats. That place was deserted during the day back then, almost everyone in the complex worked during the day or slept during the day because they worked nights. There was not another soul around to see what happened except me. And those guys were ENJOYING it. It made me sick. I couldn't sleep for days.

Chasing stray cats is a waste of municipal time and money. Anyway, I can relate to you getting sick over this. One of the reasons I didn't stick around in animal control because I worked with some twisted s. I actually LOVE animals and it was painful to see them suffer. They say that euthanasia is painless and the dog or cat doens't feel a thing, but they know what's about to happen. Some of them would get really sad w/ their tails tucked between their legs cowering in a ball and whimpering, others go ing nuts and try to take a chunk out of anything or anyone near them. Cats get sedated before they get injected with the "blue juice" but dogs get muzzled, put on a cold steel table and poked. If the dog is moving too much durring this time, instead of shooting the stuff into the poor animal's vein some of the stupid lab techs would stab them in the side and shoot it into their organs. I really hated that.

I called the manager from the apartments where I live and all the said was that the traps were for the skunks and opposums.

I guess I know how you feel. I had three stray cats in my back-yard and two disappeared a couple of months ago and the last one, I haven't seen her for two weeks I'm hoping that they are ok and living somewhere else but after hearing the other stories I'm not so sure.

OSC, I hope this will help you a little (it has helped me on several occasions):

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

    Author unknown...

You are very welcome. My vet gives a copy to each person who brings a pet to him that doesn't go home. And there is a copy on the wall in the office.

I know the feeling of losing a loved one but didn't realise it would hurt as much to lose a pet.

    UPDATE

Since I last posted I have 2 kittens left from the 7 my cat had on Valentine's Day.

Unfortunately, since the kittens were only 5 weeks old when there Mom was gone no one not even the Humane Society could help me. They tried getting me some foster animal care for them but they never called back...
Every day I have been running home from work to feed and care for them as much as I can but I also find myself crying every day because another one is gone.
What I don't understand is why no one wanted to help me with my kittens?
I even called a 24 hour animal hospital and they told me that they could not take them and if they did I had to leave a $200.00 deposit. I told off the lady telling her then why the are you a 24 hour emergency animal hospital if you really don't take care of these type of situations.
Well, I am only posting this information so that all you animal lovers out there can give your pets all the love and attention as if there was no tomorrow...

I miss my Cat (Kit-Kat) so much...

I wish I had known you were looking for foster care for them I'm a full-time student and at home most of the day, and when I'm not there Manny's there, so we could have helped until they were weaned and you could find them homes. Do you still need help with them?

I am finally down to 6 cats ... 5 of whom are male (which includes the 2 I got from Manny & Jekka ). In the last 6 years we've had mostly females and countless litters of kittens. I've scraped I don't know how many off the street ... found one dead under the hot tub, one got stuck between 2 rocks in our fish pond and drown with it's little head only about an inch below the surface (that one was ed up) ... and some just vanish.

So I was really looking forward to taking this one last female and having her spayed (for some reason I thought because she was less than a year old I couldn't do it yet) ... and now we just found out the is pregnant. User was asking if it was too late for Plan B.

And she'll probably have all girls.

I'm very sorry about your kitty, OSC.

Thank you SW. That's exactly what happened to me with Kit-Kat.
Since she was only 10 months old I figured she was too young to come out pregnant. Boy was I wrong... I put her pic of her and the 7 little ones on my avatar.
