So if the Pistons had been up 3, they would have taken their chances and let Vince Carter or Jefferson shoot the 3?? Get over it.
Two games. They own the tiebreaker.

Nets = a bad team tonight
Pistons = a worse team tonight
They both sucked tonight. The Nets sucked less.
Yo Slayer. When did Manu go to jail?![]()
Are you tin me?
Vince Carter, Richard Jefferson and Jason Kidd kicked Detroit's ass on D and did just enough to beat them on the offensive end.
It ain't the first time.
yeah I would have let them shoot a three. Ben takes it personal if he ain't allowed to go out and defend.
BTW, Pistons are lucky that the Nets have won the Atlantic Division. Otherwise, instead of meeting F#$! Philly in the first round, they could have met the Nets.
Actually, Pistons were up 3 points against the Pacers with seconds left in the game. Same as the Nets were over the Pistons tonight. Pistons elected to defend straight up and not foul. Ben blocked a Danny Granger 3-point attempt as the horn sounded.
Detroit is always lucky, remember?
its okay. better luck next time
It was one of the free avatars.
Why would you let the other get a chance to tie the game with a 3 pointer, when you could foul them and make them shoot 2 FT's which at the worst would cut your lead to 1, but it'd be you're possession???
This is basic basketball, I don't of any team in the NBA that would use your strategy...well maybe the Bobcats, but they're young and learning![]()
Not ting you.
Nets shot 28 for 75 from the field tonight for 37% shooting. Pistons shot 30 for 88 from the field for 34% shooting.
Nets just sucked less.
Bring the Nets on. The starters spotted them 15 points in the first quarter, everyone played awful offensively, and they still had a great chance to win. In the playoffs I'd imagine the Pistons would actually come to play from the tip.
I think the Flip Saunders style is wearing off on the Pistons. They might even lose to the Heat.
Actually, the strategy employed by the Nets is the minority. Worst case by letting them shoot a 3 is overtime. Worst case by fouling is losing in regulation...
Yes. What happens if they cut the lead to 1, and steal an inbounds pass, and get the layup, effectively going up 1?
Detroit doesn't choose to foul the 3 pointer in that situation because more often then not, it will not go in. Plus the players trust in their defense to get the job done.
What are the odds of the best shooting 3 point team in the NBA of hitting a three, regardless of how well they had shot them during this particular game? Maybe that factored into the equation.
Something is just up with the starters. The supposed "weak" bench has been stellar lately. They won both games against Miami and Indy, and they were the only reason this wasn't a blowout. The starters are in a serious funk right now. I don't know if it's Flip or just boredom. The just don't have any energy out there untill the final minutes.
2nd best
Exactly. For all the people saying its great decision(which i think it is, although still pussyball), it's not what every body does in that situation.
For every game you see end like this game did, you'll see waaaay more that let it play out.
All I know is...
If we play like we did tonight vs. Dallas, the final score may look quite similar to that.
Okay, so this week they are 2nd but I think it's a fair question, never the less.
They have been 2nd best for quite some time.
