Gotta go with 2003. Duncan owning the three time defending champs in LA will probably go down as the defining game of his career, at least for me.

2003. It was tough saying goodbye to DRob after all those years, but at least he went out a winner.
I still have that game on tape. As a pure basketball fan, I agree. Not many watched the 2003 Finals, but watching Kobe crying on the bench as the Lakers snapped a 13-series winning streak was priceless. Those Mavs/Spurs games were some of my favorites of the 2003 playoffs. Steve Kerr coming in cold and winning games. Watching Steve Smith and Kevin Willis act like little children. Watching Stephen Jackson hit three after three after three in game six of the Finals. And in the year of the Jordan, yet another farewell tour, when Carter was forced to give up his starting spot to Michael, guess who retired the way you're supposed to?
Not with Mariah Carey singing songs in skimpy outfits and farewell speeches at the All-Star Game. Not when you hit a fallaway almost-game winner over Shawn Marion. But as Jordan did in 1998 - as a World Champion. No better way for one of the classiest guys the NBA has ever seen than to go out an NBA Champion.
In 1999, I totally rooted against the Spurs. I thought they were an overblown team that was old, and bound to take that streak into the playoffs and have it snapped. I picked against them against the Lakers, Blazers, AND Knicks. I wanted Patrick Ewing, playing or not, to get his ring. I was pissed that they had this guy, Tim Duncan, because the Admiral was hurt for one freaking season. Who the is Jaren Jackson?
In 2005, well, I can't be impartial as a basketball fan on this one.

2003. I will NEVER forget Kobe in tears. Then, Kerr going crazy against Big D. Timmy hitting fade away jumpers against the Nets and getting almost every rebound. Finally, with a few seconds left in the final game, David Robinson walking off the court with his hands raised in the air and the crowd going crazy. I am almost in tears thinking about it now, what a way to end a GREAT career. I hope Timmy can go out the same way!
I was there for both le clinching games in 2003 & 2005 ... but I liked 1999's run better. I was so confident in that team that I could turn the TV off with the Spurs down by 5 with 1 minute remaining in the 4th quarter and have no doubt they'd still win.
They played with more authority.
I cried for all three. 2003 was my favorite, though.
2003 - Tim Duncan was the most dominant player the playoffs had seen since Jordan. Shaq and Kobe cried. We won 3 game 6's on the road! The miracle comeback against Dallas. The gutwrenching game 1 loss to Phoenix (I was there too)! Parker having a coming out party against the Nets (easily the MVP over the first 3 games of that series). Danny Ferry saving the Spurs necks by showing up when no one else would in game 2 of the Phoenix series. Malik's dunk on Mutombo. The admiral saying goodbye by grabbing 15 boards!
I loved it all.
I hope you don't mind listening to a little Detroit Pistons anecdote.
It had been 15 years in 2004 when the Pistons won it, and I had been there for all of those years. Maybe it's because they already had two les, but I didn't cry. My tears were saved for when they were eliminated in the playoffs in 1999 with New York waiting in the second round, a team they manhandled in the regular season, and a team they would have home-court advantage against. Watching Joe D, my favorite player ever, walking off the court into retirement. That's when I cried.
The closest I got was in game four - Shaq has 36 points and 20 rebounds and the Pistons won the game by eight. The Pistons had won both of their games to that point as a front-runner, and this was a game they had to come back and win. Plus, LA had lost Karl Malone in that game - I was totally convinced after that game the Pistons were the Champions. Game 5 was just an excuse to go downtown in Detroit and drink; celebrate the win.
Of all things, my first reaction to the Championship was about Rick Pitino. I commented as Chauncey Billups got his MVP award that he couldn't about not landing Tim Duncan in the 1997 draft or say "Larry Bird isn't walking through that door." Because when he says "All I got was Chauncey Billups and Ron Mercer," no one would buy it.

1999 - First is always memorable, but the Spurs were so dominant, there wasn't so much suspense.
2003 - Best story lines, best moments
2005 - Finals Game 7...can't get more nervous than that.

I have to agree Kobe crying is indeed priceless. Seeing Ray Allen stunned in 2005 because his shot didn't go in with .5 seconds left was also priceless. I remember him saying he would be thinking about it for a long time. Of course in 2005 Timmy's critics were bellowing about how his legacy was "at stake." After the Spurs won the championship, I absolutely loved the Adidas ad with Timmy's critic meter at zero. So many good memories... looking forward to more good times in the future.

But I have to go with the 2003 championship for one reason - D-Rob's Swan Song.
I remember how committed he was toward getting this last ring. How he kept encouraging and exhorting his teammates to "not give up until they got the job done"

was a fitting tribute to one of the greatest Spurs of all-time. It was very emotional seeing Big Dave take the final bow of his career.
99, because DRob finally shut up all his critics who said he was not an all time great, because he never won a ring.
I was at the Dome in the Finals agaisnt the Knicks in game 2...the only championship series I have attended too.
Mine's would have to be last year. We went through the Phoenix-Detroit gauntlet, and finally played a worthy opponent in the Finals, plus Manu pretty much broke out nationally in those playoffs, playing the best ball of his life. Really, all four series were pretty entertaining, in their own way, and the first two opponents were very hateable, which is usually not easy to do when you play mediocre teams that aren't your rivals.
'99 would be my 2nd favorite run, especially the Sean Elliott game, but it was too easy. That team was a machine. They had like a 12 game stretch there through Minny-LA-Port-NYK where they played the most consistent and dominant basketball in Spurs history. Tim was unstoppable, and DRob was a decent player back then too, and you had Sean and Mario and Jaren Jackson hitting all those 3s...
'03 is my least favorite because IMO the team didn't really deserve to win it. We won by default almost. Our team peaked in the 2nd round vs LA, then kind of just held on to beat Dal and NJ. DRob was a corpse by then, and Manu and TP were kids, and watching turnover machine Steven Jackson practically gave me a heart attack every night. Game 6 comebacks vs Dal and NJ were cool though...
Call me crazy, but the '95 squad was still my favorite Spurs team of all time, although the '06 version is growing on me.

03 was great cause of Davids last year and everything but all the games in the 03 run were soooooooooooooooo boring, but game 6 of the nets was amazing.
1999- i was 9 and i remember the first spurs game i ever watched was the memorial day miracle with my dad, since he's always been a huge fan. but i didnt have much hardcore interest in them until 2001, so 1999 I was too little for it to have a huge impact. But i remember being exstatic and screaming like a little girl as avery hit the corner three.
2004-could of been the best. Timmys shot wouldve gone down as one of the greatest ever and we would have officially ended the Lakers dynasty ourselves. I know we coulda won it if Fishes shot hadnt happened. But 04 doesnt bother me cause except for Tim, Manu, Bruce and Tony I had no connection with the players like I always have. Robert sucked that year and I didnt like Rasho, Turk, Jason Hart, and all those other guys that much. That team just had no vibe and those guys didnt seem like Spurs. If .4 had happened in 2003 or last year it would still be aching everytime i watch the Spurs. But when i realize Jason hart, matt caroll and shane heal were all parts of the team, it doesnt bother me lol.
