That thought crossed my mind, too.
They can't just make nude hose?![]()

That thought crossed my mind, too.
I've only seen about 3 players wear them in actual games. Is that really enough to assume any kind of racial bias?
Probably not. I just noticed that the only people I have seen wearing them are black (I have not seen Bogut with them on yet). It was just an observation on my part, and the racial thing did occur to me for some reason when the talk about banning them started up. It just seems like a stupid thing to hone in on to me, generally speaking. It's a fad; if they just leave it alone, the fad will fade of its own accord.
Hahahahahaha.
This is so ridiculous I thought the article was a joke. I clicked the link just to make sure it was real.
Tights are purely a question of style and preference, not utility and not medical. A medical use for wearing stockings would be to reduce or prevent oedema.
Stackhouse, "They just hold everything together", needs to discover the old technology of jockstraps. Or maybe the NBA should go back to tight-fitting hot-pants as in era before Michael Jordan?
Overdressing is common as in the American joe-college "layering" style, clothes on top of clothes.
Why TF do police, military, etc wear white, round-neck t-shirts under their uniforms IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER? Why are t-shirts defined as part of their uniform? Why do American men feel that putting on just a shirt with no undershirt in hot months is undressed?
For warmth? They lose a lot heat from their legs? Most heat is lost from the head (so the Stackhouse-like baldies should grow some hair), neck, and upper body, not from the legs. Owners are too cheap to heat the arenas? Why have the legs of generations of basketball players survived without tights until now?
European soccer players wear tights for games in outdoor stadiums in the dead of winter.
They aren't just for water retention. They improve circulation and reduce the recovery time of over-stressed muscles and help prevent fatigue. They use compression socks (which are very similar) in the hospital all of the time to improve circulation and help prevent blod clots in patients who are not mobile. I'd say that's kind of medical.
Although, I have to admit, watching someone running up and down the court with a jockstrap tied around their thighs would be pretty damn entertaining.![]()

then you hate basketball.
You also see a lot of athletes (especially NBA players) using those thin bands around tendons in their elbows and knees to keep the tendons compressed. They don't look like they could do a thing, but they do. I think the tights are just a larger version of the "shooting arm sleeve" and the knee, elbow, shin, thigh, calf, ankle, etc., supports you see hundreds of the players wearing during games for various reasons. Some wear them because they have had an injury and some wear them for extra support for weak joints or muscles to prevent injury. What possible difference could it make in the long run if a guy wears athletic tights on the court? If you don't like the way it looks, don't look at his legs. It's as simple as that. I have my doubts as to whether or not it actually makes a difference in a guy's game, but if he believes it does, that's good enough for me. I just think this controlling what the players wear is getting a little out of control (IMHO, it's just Stern exercising what little power he has over the players - nobody seems to be worried about it but him?) and it needs to stop.
Sure, medical uses of medical tights are fine for PROBLEMS.
Do all these game-shape pro athletes have medical problems with circulation in their legs?
no, it's just a distracting question of "urban" style![]()
I really don't have a problem with them as far as being considered out of uniform or whatever, in that respect I see the league's point, but I did have fun laughing at Kobe running around in purple tights.![]()
The only reason it's distracting is because Stern is MAKING it a distraction. If everybody, especially Stern, just shut the up about it, it would go away by itself.
That was pretty humorous!![]()
You are going to disagree with a woman about the benefits of support hose?
Ever trying standing on your feet all day in heels? The difference in how tired your legs get is pretty significant between wearing support hose and not wearing them. They definitely make your legs last longer, so to speak. Just because they are generally in top athletic shape, doesn't make them immune to fatigue or injury...especially if they've already suffered an injury and are trying to protect it.
While I read the article, I was thinking why can't the NBA just make them more appealing. Last night was the first time I noticed someone (don't know who?) wearing what looked like white hospital (T.E.D) hose. It did look stupid. But would it be so bad if they were colored to match the uniform?
I was sure when I saw the tights get popular that the NBA would come out with some NBA Leg Enhancers and make a buck off of it.
Could you see Shaq pimping Under Armour?![]()
Who controls the past, controls the future.
Who controls the present, controls the past.
So how will Tim, Dirk, Steve and Rash be able to dance together?
Doesn't the NBA have anything more important to discuss and debate with at their meetings other than players wearing "tights?" Banning them has got to be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard for the simple fact that it's even an "issue" to begin with.
Stern really needs to concentrate on improving NBA ratings, keeping players like Artest out of the stands, and fixing the playoff ranking system instead of worrying about freakin tights 5% of the players wear!!!!![]()
Stern and the league also desperately need to do something about the quality and consistency of the officiating.
if it's anything like the dress code, it probably has more to do with keeping corporate sponsor money, which is of the utmost importance for any sporting league.
I don't understand how wearing or not wearing "tights" on the court could possibly affect that. I'm sure they are more likely than not manufactured by one of the corporate sponsors.
Accessorizing __UNIFORMS__ for style won't stop with tights (it didn't start with tights, either).
There'll be short- and long-sleeve shirts under the jerseys, "I'm cold. you Stern, I won't make HoF if forced to play with naked arms and shoulders."
1970s pimp/pusher style with zebra and leopard fur on head bands and arm bands,
diamond-studded nose-masks with flashing LEDs
The dress code had some substance and points. The NBA wants a better image instead of looking like a thug. No harm in that, but maybe pushed a little far.
But no tights? Which are we talking about? Sleeves and such? Or under the shorts?
