After a good old fashion 2 game losing streak, it's always good to seperate who is where.

Do you think the Spurs will make the finals?

Do you think the Spurs will win the championship?

No X 2. For the record, I thought that when Duncan was sucking it up months ago.
Yes and No. Who's going to represent the West - Dallas? The Spurs are what the Lakers in the 1980s were - a great team all-time in a shallow conference.

I don't see San Antonio losing in a seven game affair against the Mavs, and that means the Nuggets, Grizzlies, and Suns won't beat them in the Conference Finals. If everyone is healthy, no one in the west can stop them.

I expect a Finals rematch with a different result.

No other team in the league is playing that well either outside of NJ (and I don't think the Spurs will meet them in the Finals).
Are you trying to say that you don't want NJ in the finals???

I would rather have NJ 10000 x more than Detroit.

think we get beat by the mavs in the second round and pistons reclaim it all. just my feeling after watching last night. duncan's not duncan and no one knows why which means fixing it won't be easy. manu isn't manu, at least not based on last night. certainly he scored but i didn't see the wild man having fun like the year before, everything seems like a chore, esp. to make it to the rim. parker's been great but suspect, and he might be headed for the annual second-half letdown based on the past couple or three games, but even if he doesn't, he's not enough to get the team anywhere. nazr and nesterovich have yet to impress more than wallace and mcdyess or, , alonzo mourning or nenad kristic. bowen's doing his thing but he can only guard one guy, and last night's one-two punch of dirk and howard proved why that's a concern, the latter kept the mavs in it in the first half and certianly the first quarter, and dirk did his thing after that first quarter. we're not soft, but it seemed like we're old and tired.

Spurs will not make the finals because Duncan is too scared to shoot the ball so we won't win. Now if Duncan gets out of sissy mode then maybe we have a chance.

Not only will they win it all, they will lose fewer games in the playoffs than last season. This season Pop has not played as if the regular season had anything to do with the playoffs, because they don't. He has used the entire season to measure his team against those he will face in the post-season.

For true championship squads, THAT is what the regular season is for; not seeding, not statement making! He has taken a page from Phil Jackson's book. Remember how the Spurs would match up with the Lakers when it didn't matter, then get smoked when it did?

    I don't believe. I KNOW.

    YES AND YES.

That's interesting, Kori. You don't think Detroit has been playing that well?? They jsut beat Miami, Pheonix, and Dallas in the past couple of weeks. Obviously the Nets 14 game win streak is impressive, but I'd say Detroit is still playing as good as they have been the entire season.

Anyways, to answer the original question:

    Maybe.
    Maybe.

It all depends on how healthy Manu and Tim feel.

    No.

    No.

Love them to death, but this isn't our year. No complaints, and I'll watch them until they spiral in. Duncan is a shadow of his normal self, but he WILL return to form next year. The Spurs aren't very scary when you can single Duncan and live with the results. That takes Tony and Manu's penetration almost totally out of the equation, and turns them into a jump shooting team. The real killer though is the mediocre defense. I can't remember SO many games with the opponent shooting >= 50%, and times when the Spurs need one or two stops, and can't get them. I think that without realizing it, Tim had become our David, and with his compromised lift and mobility, he just can't cover for Nazr's ty defense this year. That leaves the lane wide open, which explains the 50% games allowed.

As for the possible regular season wins record, keep in mind that the previous mark was 62, and that team lost a bitter series in the playoffs because they couldn't get stops when they needed them.

Horry guarding Nowitzki would've allowed Duncan to guard Dampier, and guard the rim more, shutting off that penetration.

Who is gonna beat them in the west Ex come on......

Can't disagree, in general. I think they have enough to make it out of the West, but the Pistons are going to punk them in the Finals, especially with homecourt. It'll probably take 5 games.

"such a juggernaut that they are unbeatable."

Pistons are beatable, but if the Spurs lose the first 2 @Auburn Hills, the series will be over, just like it was last season for the Pistons, who came back to SBC needing to win both Game6 and 7 (having lost Games1 and 2 @SBC), while the Spurs only needed to win one.

The Pistons know it, the Spurs know it.

The first two games at Auburn Hills will define the Finals.

I expect the Spurs/Mavs series to go 6 or 7 games.

    If Duncan is healthy: yes/yes

If Duncan is not healthy: no, the Mavs can beat them, especially if they wind up with the HCA.

I'm seriously beginning to worry if even Parker is going to be 100% by the playoffs, as carrying the load all season is starting to take its toll on him.

It's the easy way out to answer yes/yes in this forum, because if you are right you get to shove it in the others' faces and if you are wrong then you can just claim that you're a better fan and the others didn't believe enough. I guess that means a Knicks fans who doesn't answer yes/yes doesn't believe in his team either.

well then, we agree there are no unbeatable teams. so why worry? if if if if if if... you can do what if's all day. but why bother? life is too short for me to layout every playoff scenario in my head and dissect it. there are two months until june. a lot can happen in two months, things that your playoff analysis can't forsee.
