For me the amount of saves you have does not necessarily reflect on how good of a closer you are. You can be a great closer and be on a team that rarely gets you in a position to earn a save therefore never leading the league. A good indicator of how effective a closer is would be by the percentage of save opportunites in which they are successful.

Agreed, KSkonn. The new closer for the Mariners is pretty damn good. But cus the Mariners suck, he doesn't have those Mariano numbers.

Also, Lidge is officially out of the closer's position, though supposedly only 'temporarily'.

Lidge will only be out of it for like 2 weeks at the most so he can pitch in like the 6-7-8 innings to get his stuff back then he'll be closer again. So it is probably Wheeler for a little while.

Letting Dotel go make the Stros 100 times better. Dotel is horrible, he isn't even pitching in the MLB even today. He is on some team, Yankees I think but hasn't pitched one inning this season

I was jumping with joy when Dotel went to the A's, I told everyone, Dotel will suck it up or get hurt and Huston Street will take over the closing duties as a rookie....

I was 100% correct and ever since then, Bye bye Dotel

Damn Lidge was horrible last night vs the Nats.

Pujols's homerun really sunk this guy.

    6.43 ERA?!?!

Damn, almost as bad as Isringhausen.

it really just came down to that one wild pitch, that's when things got out of hand. he had 3-4 solid outings before that one back as closer. he'll get back on track, at least he's not tipping his pitches anymore. i don't know what the stros will do when ausmus retires, dude blocks every slider in the dirt with ease.

It's part of it. You think they would have had the money for Clemens and Pet te if they were paying Wagner what the Phillies were paying him?

Guy owns the stadium and gets all the money off of it, why not.

Its not like ST Louis where the ownership group fronted alot of the money for the arena.

mclane makes holt look like a freewheeler with free agent money, aside from roger clemens. but clemens brought more money to the stros than anyone else. most of the current stros players came up in the farm system, it's the best in the league.

i am terrified every time he comes in the game now. purpura needs to make some sort of move. not saying lidge has to go, but they have to shake something up. the bullpen is not getting it done.

ehh, wagner is notorious for giving it up too. the mistake was moving dotel to closer, he was an awesome setup guy.

I agree with what everybody is saying, he's been a basketcase since the Pujols homer. It's not to get any easier either. Intense pressure and stress is part of the job of being a closer.
