Talk about memories, when you mention the skating rink. When I went through basic training in the Air Force my barracks was near an on-base skating rink. Of course, I didn't get to go as I was in basic but we could hear the music being played when it was lights out.

Two of the songs I remember them playing:

"i Write the Songs" by Barry Manilow

and

"All By Myself" by Eric Carmen

Of course we were too cool to admit liking that stuff but I have to admit I could probably sing those songs today without looking at a lyric sheet or even hearing them played.
