I think you all (scott included... given the context of his or her last post) are misinterpreting the essence of the phrase itself...
It has nothing to do with arrogance...
It has nothing to do with being dismissive....
It has nothing to do with apes being around or not...
It has everything to do with the mindset you place yourself in on account of faith.
My opinion: I truly believe that we are all GOD's creation... but only when we confess with our own mouth and acknowledge GOD's existence by virtue of JESUS's sacrifice... then and only then can we be called Children of GOD... the Royal Priesthood.... ergo Sons and Daughters of the one True King. It may sound like fantasy to you, but using that le in no way assumes I am claiming to be superior than others around me. Using that phrase, then, was a way of saying that those who proclaim Evolution is their 'church' must realize that they are in fact acknowledging they are the descendants of an ape... heck, I could have said an ameoba... it's all the same.
Since I don't believe in speciation, I believe that my lineage is human, going back to you guessed it... Adam and Eve. And just how is my claim substantiated? By the same vessel that allows me to believe in an en y that I cannot physically see, hear or touch.... through FAITH.
Proving GOD's existence has little to do with Science and more to do with Faith (something we all agree is not measureble by Science)... But because humans have wanted and failed to explain GOD through Science they can only conclude that HE doesn't exist... And to that I say baloney... Science has broad capabilities but is limited by the fact that many of its thorems, and hypotheses are drawn from mechanisms and observations we see today. Trying to establish our past based on what we observe today has its limitations. Failure to see this is not only ignored, but propagated through every field -- such as is the case with the geologic or cosmic time scale. Again, my agenda is not to belittle Science... I am entrenched and heavily intertwined with Science. It is a major part of my life and always has been -- even as a child.
And this may sound arrogant when it's really not; I have found that only a handful of people can converse intelligently and fluently on all matters relating to astronomy, biology, physics, atmospheric sciences, oceanography, genetics, geology, paleontology, chemistry, electromagnetism, quantum physics etc... --- all fields pertaining to 'Science'. Many times I have found that people draw the majority of their conclusions depending on what looking glass their field relates to... but rarely how the concept needs to be coherent with everything else we know from the other fields.
In anycase, me saying that I have studied these fields extensively in no way dismisses concepts suggested by other people. And it is this aspect of my familiarity with scientific principles and methods that drives people like boutons_ mad... that they can't call me out as a 'dumb and stupid, bandwaggon Christian'. It just is what it is; while most read a scientific publication and hinge on its every word as truth, I can read it and pick out conceptual flaws, errors in their testing methods, and can usually determine when a claim or conclusion is unsubstantiated by the data.
I'm not belittling Science... I'm using everything else I know of Science, along with critical thinking skills to filter out the author's bias (if present) and draw conclusions of my own (which many times may be the same as the article's). If you all don't believe that Science contends with Science why do you all think we have one group of Scientists claiming 'Global warming' is a threat and another group claiming that it is a cyclic natural process that has been affected only minimally by humans... <--- This is also why I haven't posted in that other thread by Sec24Row7 becuase both sides have legitimate data and the conclusion requires further study. And don't give me political agenda crap either (that goes for you boutons_ ) Respected scientists on both sides have presented said legitimate data.
And yes, scott, I know that we as humans don't have it all figured out... In fact, I posted that same exact wording about 5 or 6 posts before you mentioned it... but the concept goes both ways. It doesn't imply that GOD is the answer to everything and that we should blindly accept our world without studying it. HE gave us our critical thinking ability... HE allows us to discover just how complex HIS creation really is. Without Science we wouldn't be able to fathom just how amazing our universe really is.... It all points to HIM and to GOD be the glory (whether man choses to accept it or not is another story)...
