Holts checks into treatment center
Associated Press
SAN ANTONIO -- San Antonio Spurs chairman Peter Holt said Monday that he has entered an alcohol-treatment center after a relapse of the disease that he has been battling for much of his adult life.
In a statement released through the team, Holt, 55, said he checked into a residential facility last Monday at the request of his family. He said he will remain there for an unspecified period.
"I am embarrassed by this relapse, and I apologize to my family, my friends, my business colleagues and to the entire community,'' he said in the statement. "But, I am committed to regaining sobriety and maintaining it -- one day at a time."
Holt, a decorated Vietnam veteran and one of the nation's leading heavy-equipment dealers, said that he received treatment for alcoholism in the 1980s and that he was able to stay sober for many years until his recent relapse.
"I ask for your support and prayers, and your patience," he said. "This relapse just drives home the point to me that I have to battle this disease every waking minute."
Holt said that his public position in San Antonio and Texas led him to issue the statement. In addition to his high profile in the city, he is a recent appointee to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission.
He has led the Spurs ownership group since 1996. During that time the team has won two NBA championships, the second coming in the 2002-03 season.
This is fun! I think I'll go read some of Obstructed's posts. They're a little more objective.
Old News.
And yet the Mavs owner has the reputation for being a loudmouth while the Spares is a raging alcoholic. I'd prefer the former.
I'd prefer the guy that recognised he had a problem and did something about it. If there was such a thing as a bag treatment center I would trust that Cubes would go.
Wow, so bring out the alcoholic smack. Like we haven't heard that one before. Real classy. At least there is treatment for alcoholism, which is a DISEASE I might add. There is no cure for what Cuban has.
I'd take a Drug addicted alcoholic owner over Mark Cuban thanks
There's that word again - class. But let's photoshop Cuban's head on some dude banging on a fat chick on the dancefloor. You're an ignorant hypocrite just like the rest of them.
I think he's still in that first phase:
.......denial.
Excuse me, did I do that photoshop? NO. Did I laugh or find it even remotely funny? NO. So don't you ing call me a hypocrite, asshole.
Besides, a photoshop of a guy dry humping on the dancefloor is nowhere near the level of making fun of someone's life-threatening MEDICAL CONDITION.
Mavs fans love to make fun of people with diseases though.
Alcoholism is a weakness, not a disease. It's not a condition. Cirrhosis of the liver is a condition.
Is being a Mavs fan a condition or a disease?
Oh that was some ownage right there![]()
I kept waiting for AJ to take off his tear-away suit and put himself in the game!

Q. Is Alcoholism a Disease?
from National Ins ute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism
A.
Yes. Alcoholism is a chronic, often progressive disease with symptoms that include a strong need to drink despite negative consequences, such as serious job or health problems. Like many other diseases, it has a generally predictable course, has recognized symptoms, and is influenced by both genetic and environmental factors that are being increasingly well defined. (See also Alcohol Alert No. 30: Diagnostic Criteria for Alcohol Abuse and Dependence.)
There's a lot of sources that say it isn't, and a lot of sources that say that it is. Either way, it's a serious condition with serious consequences to sufferers families and their health, quite significantly moreso than some billionaire with a big mouth and a bad haircut. Not even a close comparison that could justify ridicule.
To me, it's a disease.
Anyway, calling it a weakness is dumb as .
