maybe we can bring in DRob as a big man coach to teach Ian some post moves and mold him into the player DRob was. Alot of teams bring in retired big men on the coaching staff to teach the young talent (Kareem-bynum, Ewing-yao).
Kareem and Ewing haven't done much of a job, though.

As for DRob, he can't teach Ian how to jump that high, and have a knack for where to be on defense. DRob was just a freak...I doubt he'd be able to pass that on.

he doesn't have to teach ian that.. those are natural talents ian already has. Maybe some big fundemental player can teach him some moves too.

Hmm, somebody with good fundamental skills.

Hmm, somebody whose ego isn't too big and would't midn teaching a young player.

Hmm...where would we find such a big fundamentally sound player...

Kareem just started -- and Ewing? Yao is quickly becoming the dominant force everyone said he was going to be. Only injuries have been holding him back.

So injuries have been holding him back since Ewing has come in there?

He has shown flashes of dominance. But that is recently. Ewing has been there a while now.

yao ming will probably not go down as a alltime great player BUT what he has done for the globalization of the NBA AND also the marketing and merchandise sales he has given to the rockets organization is where his value rests....He may not be the best bet from a basketball standpoint, but from a business standpoint he is worth every penny.

Mahinmi looks like he'll be solving al lot of the rebounding issues for the Spurs. Great feel around the basket and he reads the ball extremely well.

    Three seasons?

    Yeah, that's a lifetime in a big man's career.

    Go research some draft picks.

Presti said the kid is raw. He is ONLY 19 and has TREMENDIOUS upside. the worst he could be is a marcus camby type player...the best obiviously would be a David Robinson type player. with a late round pick like this, i would be extremely happy even if he was somewhere inbetween!

Come on -- he could be much worse than that.

I think a camby type player is reasonable.

    camby's career stats are 10.9ppg 8.9rpg 1.5apg 2.4blks 1.01stls

this past year he averaged 12ppg 11rpg. I think Ian is capable of that.

    those are not outrageous numbers.

Going up from 18 ppg to 22 ppg is a real "breakout" year I tell you. Way to go Patrick!

Reasonable or not, he could also be Nazr; Nazr's athleticism is in the same ballpark; he just has a limited game and a tendency to make crucial mistakes.

For that matter, he could balloon up like Shawn Kemp, have the work ethic of Jerome James, have no compe ive streak, or turn out to be someone who totally folds during crunch time.

It's way to early to tell.
