I still think the drought is gonna break soon. The mesquite trees down south don't have a very big bean crop this year and the prickly pear have fewer apples than normal...both are indicators of a reasonably wet year to come...
The Cowboy knows what he speaks about! Never doubt the Mesquite tree. Every south Texan knows that! That being said, tie your ass to a pole Margaret. A big storm is coming from the Gulf!

Mesquite trees are also a 100% reliable indicator of when winter is over. They never get fooled by "false springs" and won't bud out till after the last frost. A lot of old timers won't plant their gardens till the mesquites bud.

My rain gauge is showing about half full after this first morning storm. It's in my back yard, about 15 yards from my door. I'll give an update after I have my coffee and go check it up close.

Looks like another line is right behind this one.

    Good Times.

OK, the rain gauge read just a bit under 2 1/4 inches.

I didn't mind being woken at 7:45 AM for this. I didn't even have to count the lightning. For a solid 20 minutes, it was like flashBOOM! er rolled right over my house.

We're going to be driving to Allas today so it'll be raining all weekend. My niece's engagement party is an outdoor event. So the rain is assured, don't worry about a thing.

One of my renters tells me that a large part of the wheat crop in the Panhandle has already been disastered out and the guys will be getting there crop insurance checks soon
A bit farther south, 1/2 of my cotton will likely be zeroed out by the end of the month--the other 1/2 has a chance if it rains in the next 2 weeks

I'll make sure to wash my car and water my yard tomorrow, that should guarantee rain.

Yeah, I got trace rain, too. Most of this went East of us, and unfortunately, most of what is out NW of us looks like it will pass to the West.

It's killer when like that happens, right? I used to live in St. Martinville, Louisiana. Certain times of the year, mostly spring, we got these massive storms with high wind and lightening, 8" of rain that lasted all night, or rolled in and woke us up. . That was so incredible. Just laying there in bed, watching the skylights, watching the lights and water, not getting up much, except to maybe grab the bottle of wine...make it closer. Just lounge there listening to it.

    I miss home.

Bexar cty didn't get but a trace of rain (0.2 inches) Sunday ac ulated in the last 12 hours:

In the past couple weeks, I drove east to Beaumont and west to Concan.
Corn seen from the highways is totally brown and stunted.

2005/06 are looking like the driest two years in 50 years:
