I wouldn't fight a J.R. Smith acquisition - don't get me wrong. I just doubt his ability to put things together and be a good professional. Maybe he's near the corner and the Spurs could help...

I'm against the Smith acquisition and am convinced the Spurs were gonna take a flier on him more than anything. Losing Barry's salary was the real prize there.

All for Claxton. No thanks on a mental case like J.R. Smith. As a throw-in, why not? But don't chase him.
Getting Claxton would be great. Excellent insurance policy. However, I'm afraid that Mark Cuban is going to go after Claxton also.

Unless Cuban throws crazy money at Claxton the Spurs should be able to field a compe ive offer.

Where's the time for Claxton in Dallas? Their guard corps is stacked. Either Cuban's not resigning Jason Terry or he's just doing it to keep Speedy away from the Spurs.

Exactly. If they re-sign Terry, there are no minutes left.

Claxton looks like their Plan B/attempt at leverage with Terry.

Perhaps the Mavs have other priorities than making a run after Speedy. This is just a rumor at this point, but:

Philadelphia Inquirer - A recent rumor has Mike James going to Dallas in a package for guard Marquis Daniels, but GM Bryan Colangelo wouldn't comment when reached Friday afternoon.

The Raptors have little interested in re-signing James, but will look to receive talent in return via a sign-and-trade deal.

My understanding is that Terry will move to sg and Harris will be the starting point. Claxton should find enough minutes behind Harris.

All signs point to Griffin not returning so Stack will likely move to small forward behind Howard. He can get minutes behind Terry as well.

Daniels will likely be gone in a trade as he's the new Finley. AJ doesn't like him so they'll ship him out.

J.R. Smith looks like he can be an asshole. I don't think he would fit well with the Spurs.
Since the Spurs are old and unathletic, I guess your argument works. I would like to see the Spurs make the Barry for Smith deal a reality. This is a move that should be considered NOW!!!! Anyone who has a personality conflict with another person, both could be considered "assholes" Scott doesn't come away smelling all clean here!

Yeah, Terry will move to SG to make room for Harris to start at point. Not sure about Griffin & Stack's status. Stack could be packaged with Daniels for something bigger or Daniels could be traded to Toronto for Mike James.

All this to do over a series that was lost by one brain-lock by one of out star players in the 7th game. Not to mention a couple of games decided by referee's decision.

If we win that series and go on to beat the Heat with Rasho and Nasr playing Shaq and everyone forgets small ball.
