The writer wasn't making excuses for the Pistons or the Mavs; he was using them as an example of what's wrong with the NBA. And I, for one, totally agree with him!

When the Pistons won in 2004, they were a legit team. The Lakers were HEAVILY favored (much the way the Mavs were favored) and the Pistons beat the out of them.

Another reason why the Lakers lost the finals because the Pistons and about 100 fans were at the Lakers Hotel throwing things at Lakers rooms and stuff.
