Of course, the Spurs could simply keep Williams, then let his salary come off the books next summer and save more money.
Wwwwwwwwwwwwtffffffffffffffffffff
wtf wtf wtf what the !
To answer your question, I don't know what they offered Prycilla but he isn't here. The guys we brought in are all on very short term contracts. All the guys who were already on our team have contracts that expire in the next year or two.
That's not my opinion, it's just statement of fact. Wtf!
Of course, the Spurs could simply keep Williams, then let his salary come off the books next summer and save more money.
The thought process is that there will be several big-name free agents (Mike Bibby, Vince Carter, Rashard Lewis etc.) and only a few suitors. If a team wants to be in the running for those players they're gonna have to work to get significantly under the cap. Eric Williams' expiring $4.9 million dollars would be a huge asset to someone looking to make a significant signing next summer.
The Spurs also have yet to fill their need for a young, athletic swingman (see Barry, Finley, Bowen). There are plenty of young swingmen on rookie contracts that could be had for Williams and a late first-round pick.
Here's a scenario: Golden State (not significantly under the cap) trades Mickael Pietrus for EW and the first round pick in 2007. The Spurs get their young, athletic swingman and the Warriors get enough space to go after a big guy or have room to pay over 15% in a trade.
Williams' contract becomes even more appealing around the February trade deadline as some teams realize they are not going to be real contenders and start thinking about next year.
That makes sense.
I guess that's the only scenario I could see the Spurs trading him in. For a young athletic SG/SF who isn't that expensive. To a team looking to clear cap space to get a big name guy, or just to stay under the cap. Thanks.
If he's going to be here half a season, it would be nice to introduce him at some point.
Media day.
To piggy back on my earlier statement about getting back a young swingman in return...here's a list of potentials. Keep in mind, some of these would require an additional draft pick or two. Tell me what you think.
Tony Allen - After draft, a guard-heavy team, played close in OK
Antoine Wright - to help re-sign Carter
Carlos Delfino - to help re-sign Billups, plus he said he wanted out, and he's got a few friends on this club
Dorell Wright - Stuck at end of bench
Travis Outlaw - Someone's gotta go...could be Miles though
CJ Miles - Stuck at end of bench
Francisco Garcia - to help re-sign Bibby
Sergei Monia - to help re-sign Bibby
Francisco is a nice player.
For Erik Williams and a future 2nd round pick I'd do that in a heartbeat.
Where he should be. Highschool idiotshould have gone to UT and helped them win a championship...then come out after a year or two if ready.
Williams will play 10-15 mins a night as Bowen's backup. If he still has the D and hustle he displayed in Jersey two seasons ago he may even play more.
If we aren't going well, or if a particularly good young SF becomes available, he and/or Barry will be traded midseason.
