Fishing in Choke Canyon should be good although not very scenic for camping.

^^ Oh yeah, and they have alligators there.
go there in November and there are monster south texas bucks running does all over the campground trying to get laid.
We went to Lost Maples this weekend. We ended up buying a small good tent and an air mattress per CC's advice and it worked out awesome. We'll probably be hitting Enchanted Rock early next week, and then hopefully Big Bend.
Glad it worked out for you...Did y'all get an air mattress that you pump up or the self inflating pads with the foam core? I never had much success with air mattresses...they were always getting holes in them...
Ditto.
Manny Big Bend will be awesome. You might want to look into rafting the river. It's not white water like in Colorado or anything but with the rains up river recently it should be a decent float. The canyons are awesome to float through and some outfitters will take you for multi-night trips if you are so inclined or you can do a day trip. Either way, a raft trip is a great part of the Big Bend experience.
We got an actual air mattress. I've read about the self inflating pads as well, though. If we have trouble with the air mattress, I'll probably just get us a couple of pads. If/When we take up backpacking, we'll probably have to go that route either way.
Excellent. We'll definetly look into that.

Hey Manny
Gone camping anymore?
We are going in a couple of weeks (Guadalupe State Park)
We haven't been since the first couple of weeks because we've been had busy weekends. Its hard for me to give up my weekends because thats when I make the most money, BUT now that its a bit cooler and its rained some I want to go again.
Jess just started a new job so I think Big Bend might be on hold for a bit, but hopefully we can go before too long.
We did go to Colorado Bend about a month ago or so, and that was really isolated but the river was reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally low.
^^ Did you check out the falls there?
Sure did, but they weren't very nice right now. The guy giving the tour said they were the lowest he'd ever seen due to the drought. The river was looooooooooooooooooooooooow. Hopefully next time we go it'll be better. I want to do the cave tour as well.
