you could say the same thing about rock and roll couldn't you? just ask little richard about elvis.
Elvis got his style from playing blues and listening to blues - which was played by black musicians. Elvis would go to see Buddy Guy and Co. and be the only white guy in the place. Elvis took much of his inspiration from black blues players.

that's besides the point. he took what was theirs and got all the credit for it, which is why they resent him. he could record songs they played for years, and all of a sudden it was great music for the masses since it was put out by a whitebread musician.
societal conditions were a lot different in the infancy of hip hop music.
20-30 years before the advent of hip hop separate but equal was still all over the place. it's not that hard to grasp what was different.
