Dealing with Saddam was not about retribution for 9/11.
Not according to the way Bush and Cheney told it.
You know damn well that they did.

Clint, you want to go after Osama? He's holed up in western Pakistan. How many body bags do you want coming back to America after that one?

You've got the majority of AQ who escaped Afghanistan camping out there, and you have a large, lawless region of Muslim tribal fundamentalists camping out there.

You want Osama dead? You and the rest of the PC crowd stand up and say you don't mind the US dropping another nuke, because that's about the only way you're gonna get OBL in western Pakistan without having 10-20K (maybe more) dead American troops coming back, all to say we got one man.

When did they ever say it was punishment for 9/11? You must have missed something, all I caught was 1) WMD, 2) supporting terrorism abroad, 3) link to AQ.

I never heard Bush say "9/11 pissed me off, and Saddam's gonna pay for it."

I never saw it that way...I looked at it as if Saddam was a threat with WMD and Iraq a place where a terrorist WMD connection was likely to transpire. The sanctions were also a chief recruiting tool for Bin Laden.

I looked at it as we went into Iraq for legitimate reasons...War profiteering was going to happen by someone...better us than Europe, but it wasn't the main reason for going into Iraq.

Why is anyone giving OBL the time of day anyway?
Even Bush himself has said that we can never stop all terrorist attacks.
It'll happen again. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but someday.
I'm for Texas justice and say we get him dead or alive.
Clint...I agree with you about not giving OBL the time of day. See if you can convince Dan the soothsayer!

Well as you can all see I'm not good with words but I do want OBL dead.
Bush keeps saying he wants to take the fight to Al Queda then let's get OBL!!

Cheney kept saying "We know Saddam had connections with Al Queda...".
Maybe I'm just a dumb cowboy but that's how I took it.

If he's in Pakistan than let's take them out for harboring a known terrorist!

    Wake Up America!!

What they told was that we had every reason to believe that Saddam could help out ODB the next time around and that might not be a pleasant prospect considering that the entire world thought he had nukes. The Clinton administration certainly thought that was a real possibility and definitely not one to take lightly.

No one is fooled by Pakistan...it is a huge cause of terrorism and it's nukes a really scary thought for most of us...but Musharraf isn't any more popular with terrorists than we are. Right now...it's better to have Pakistan as an ally in the war on terror. It's also difficult to take on countries with nukes, which is why it was better to err on the side of caution with Iraq. Musharraf may well turn out to be another Saddam..and if he does we'll have to cross that bridge when we come to it. Right now he helps us more as an ally than he does as an enemy.

Don't be surprised if our relationship with India gets stronger at some point. As Bush said at the beginning of this journey...the alliances are going to change...we are going to turn them against each other...this is not going to be a conventional war.
