Fair enough. But he hadn't played before that season. My point is that the points of comparison among true rookies are difficult because there are so few true rookie QBs who play appreciable amounts of time.
I'll drop that, though.
Warner wasn't a rookie, and since this a thread regarding rookies, let's stick to that.

I agree, it is difficult, but by no means is it impossible.
Having said that, after looking at some rookie stats, you have to say that Big Ben may have had the best rookie year........that was surprising to me.
Correction:
Leinart...the Best 0-2 Rookie QB EVER After Two Games
He'll be a great one, but he's not approaching Ben's rookie season yet.
You shouldn't be so hard on yourself.and its only cause there are so many dumbasses on this board.
Let's try to avoid the "I know you are but what am I" comebacks here.
I love these people that are hating on Leinart "Well hes 0-2 hes nt even close to Roethlisberger"
For one, Leinart can't go out and play defense for the Cardinals
2, he runs the plays called, and the people calling the plays are drooling re s.
3. The running game, wich takes pressure off the QB, is twice what it is in Arizona, in Pittsburgh.
So you guys are being completely unfair to Leinart.
The first half of last night's game, when the Cardinal defense plays well, and the offensive play calling is decent, he showed what he can do.
Leinart is playing well, but he should have got the job done against the Bears.
The Bears need to lose a few games so Seattle can get home field advantage!
Leinhart is a stud.
Best rookie QB ever? So far, not at all.
Best rookie QB in quite some time? No doubt about it.
Ummmm, go back and look at Big Ben's stats from two years ago........
Ok, now that you've done that, "Best rookie QB in quite some time? No, Big Ben was better.
The Steelers were 10x the team the Cards are now. Better WRs, better OL, better running game, better D, etc.
Leinart just played the top D in the league and almost won, would have if DG wasn't re ed.
Leinart is a more polished QB than Roethlisberger, two games in...
Hey, I think Roethlisberger is overrated so don't get me wrong. I'm just pointing out that after looking at STATISTICS ONLY (meaning there is more to it then that) that Ben has the best rookie season perhaps ever.
I think that was his second year.
EDIT: already mentioned.
...just b/c ben's stats were better does not make him the better rookie QB. it is clear to me, after two games, that Leinart is a better QB than ben was in his rookie season. in fact, i think Leinart is better than ben right now.
do i seriously think Leinart is the best rookie QB ever?...not really...but he has a chance to be. and if some of you cannot see how good this guy is after two games and how good he can be...then, i'm sorry, you just don't know football.
No, I agree with you, Leinart has more potential to end up with one of the best rookie seasons of all time. Like I said, going strictly by stats though, as of right now, Ben has one of the best if not the best rookie season so far. Leinart is an impressive quarterback, of which I didn't really think he would be in the NFL either, shows you what I know.
I disagree for obvious reasons. Cards sucked before Leinhart, now theyre at least competing. Steelers owned before, during, and not-so-much after Ben. Much like Navarre (sp?) in UM, he was a product of a system. Ben is a product of a system.
Put Ben behind the Cards oline...he just might set the record for most sacks.
Actually, the more I thought about it the more I'm inclined to agree with the Leinart being more impressive then Ben theory.
Just because of this thread, Leinart is going to suck big-time against the Raiders.
God I hope not, I would love to see the Raiders go winless this season.
For a rookie, Roethlisberger showed tremendous poise. That's just something rookie QB's are not supposed to have. Cowher is no idiot. He must have saw something in this guy in training camp that nobody else saw. Tommy Maddux' injury in week 2 in '04 was a blessing in disguise. I don't think the Steelers team would have rallied around him like they did Ben.
In this case, his poise far outweighs the stats he put up.
This whole argument reminds me of the Terry Bradshaw-Archie Manning comparisons that were made way back when. Many believe that the Steelers would have been even better if Manning was a Steeler and Bradshaw would have been exposed as an overrated QB had he played for the woeful Saints. The problem here is that one would never know how that scenario would have played out.
I love old school football talk. I wish I was around for when players didn't smoke crack, beat their wives, shoot guns at people, attempt suicides, yell at their coaches, speak in public, etc.
I agree....while they did have their problems, they also had respect for their opponents, sportsmanship and they settled things on the field, unlike a lot of players and, sadly, fans today.I love old school football talk. I wish I was around for when players didn't smoke crack, beat their wives, shoot guns at people, attempt suicides, yell at their coaches, speak in public, etc.
