What is this guy thinking? NO ONE in their right mind is giving him an equal contract to this, much less more. He is a fool.

Damn...how much does his family eat??
Maybe Oliver Miller is related to Spree. That man can eat.

It's amazing how players live in a dream world thinking their skills haven't declined. No GM in their right mind would pay Spree $14M/yr at his age and current skill level. He's lucky to even be offered $9M. It's too bad Pop couldn't get a hold of him for the Spurs when he was younger because he was quite a player. He had that killer instinct the Spurs always seemed to lack.

Anyhow, all this turmoil on the Wolves bodes well for us because they're probably our top compe ion in the west.

the thing is i think his agent is the one driving this not spree, you no how it is with those guys, but no Spree in SA never would have worked, that would be like rodman all over again.

the t-wolves were a doomed dynasty before they got started, they built around declining veterans, of course they're gonna face this.

You couldn't be more wrong. Spree is negotiating his own contract, that's the problem.

Spree had an option which he used earlier this year. If he REALLY believed he was worth an extension at the same price, common knowledge would say that he would have been better off doing a three year deal starting this year instead of using his option and then starting a 3 yr extension that begins a whole year older.

There's two bad scenario's, spree plays out the season. Knowing spree though he would still go all out and give it his all, especially in a contract year.

Or he gets traded and the Wolves GET SOMETHING BACK. Thats something which everyone here seems to forget. Remember, this is the guy that was traded a crippled point guard for.

According to Patricia's site, there's no option -- it was just a 2 year deal, 2003-05. But several people have said the Spurs have an option. If Devin is a free agent this summer, where are the Spurs going to come up with money for him?
    This is the option year:
the team has options on Horry and Brown for 2004-05

They can pay him up to the midlevel using Early Bird rights. That won't affect the actual MLE.

Man, I seriously doubt I'd be giving Spree what the wolves are offering either. $9M per year for 3 years...

Sure but hes not getting any younger, I spose its all or bust right now for Minny...

I wouldn't have offered that much either. Slightly more than the MLE would have been enough, at least it would have been the best he'd fetch.

Local DJ's are having a food drive. Bring some non-perishable items to the game or to the station to help feed "spree and his family". One guy called in and said his 8 year old son was sulking last night during supper. He asked why and said he was worried about Spree's family. Its frickin' hilarious. I expect him to see Webber-esque boos tomorrow night.

Spree is still good, but now that he doesnt get the touches he got in NY he isnt the same effectivness wise, it just doesnt make sense to pay him any more money, because he cannot fill that kind of role for any team other than miami, and they're capped out.

    Spree is an idiot.

He's turning down 9 million per year, at the age of 35??? For playing the most commonly played position in the NBA??? (swingman)

The Wolves should just hold on to the current contract until it expires. No way you mortgage the future of your franchise for a has-been shooting guard.

Cool, thanks. I was wondering about that. I forgot about Early Bird for some reason. I just kept thinking that I knew they didn't have his Bird rights.

Sprewell Cited After Argument With Officer

    Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS - Latrell Sprewell of the Minnesota Timberwolves received a misdemeanor citation Tuesday after being involved in a verbal confrontation with a police officer.

Sprewell, who was criticized by NBA Commissioner David Stern for comments he made regarding a contract extension, was riding in a vehicle that was stopped in downtown Minneapolis about 6 p.m. Tuesday, police spokesman Ron Reier said.

Sprewell spoke up while the driver was being questioned about licensing and insurance.

"Somehow, Sprewell attempted to intervene in the situation," Reier said. "He was then ordered to not interfere."

Sprewell ignored the order and was ticketed for failing to obey the lawful order of a police officer, Reier said.

Sprewell has demanded that the team extend his contract, or he'll ask to be traded. Sprewell averaged 16.8 points last season and is due to make $14.6 million this year.

Timberwolves vice president Kevin McHale declined to comment about the citation.

"Sprewell's $14.6 million salary this season is tied with eight other players for the ninth highest in the league. To put that into context, Sprewell's salary is more than double that of Indiana's Ron Artest and Detroit's Richard Hamilton, players who are more than five years younger and considered better than Sprewell." -Mike Wells Pioneer Post

I agree, tell me how Minni can justify offering spree the amount of money that they have. You would think that Spree would just be excited about the chance to go out and try to win a championship. Those opportunitie dp mot come along to often when you have played on the Teams Spree has. Or maybe spree has always been the problem?

I would love to see Minny take a stand and retract their extension offer and just let him walk after the year..and even hold out if he wishes...screw trading him. That would only enforce to these idiots that if they and moan, they will get what they want.

    Utterly clueless.

Definetily, To many players are complaining their way in to a trade. The players need to take more time in deciding where they really want to play, instead of causing all of these issues for their orginizations after the fact. To many orginizations are having to settle for medicracy when trading problem players, eventually the teams are going to have to take a stand.
