Too bad more of the young college age kids didn't get out to vote more.
If only we could kill Puffy.
Too bad more of the young college age kids didn't get out to vote more.
I do agree with Manny though. The youth of this country obviously do not realize the power they could have if they tried. Then again, voter apathy is not solely a problem with the 18-35 set. Too many people fought and died to assure us the right to vote. More and more people seem to care less and less about that.
Well, not voting is as much a political statement as is actually voting.
I disagree...I think its a statement of "I don't give a ." but that is just my .02.
If not voting is making a statement it's about as effective as screaming without ever opening your mouth.
In fact, I take it as an insult when people say not voting is making a statement. I spent way too much time out there trying to make a real difference through actual volunteer work to consider doing NOTHING using your voice.
Its not about making a statement...its about exercising your right as a citizen. If your guy does not win, that sucks but at least you did your part.
Bring it on.
Not exactly. A rather sizable number of eligible voters in the nation opted to not take part in "the most important presidential election" of their lives or whatever.
One does not have to vote to participate in the political process. Obviously non-votes that would have otherwise gone to a candidate have some impact on the outcome of a given race.
Not voting is a statement, but it's not a very effective one.
Politicians don't target non-voters.
I'm glad you feel insulted. In fact, I take it as an insult when people say not voting is making a statement. I spent way too much time out there trying to make a real difference through actual volunteer work to consider doing NOTHING using your voice.
Not voting is cowardice, IMO.
Yeah no ...that's a good reason for someone to vote...so Manny doesn't feel insulted.
How can not voting be a part of the political process?
Is that an oxymoron?
Actually, given the comments in this thread and the threat of death from the "Vote or Die" campaign it apparently takes some courage. Not voting is cowardice, IMO.
I don't have a problem with people choosing not to vote, if they are truly apathetic about the government. Many people simply don't feel like it affects them one way or the other, so if they don't want to vote, so be it.
But those who do care, and are constantly complaining about government intrusion or whatever... not voting simply perpetuates a neverending cycle of Politicans ignoring you.
Corporations cater to consumers, not nonconsumers. And politicians cater to voters, not nonvoters.
Ever hear of free speech rights? How can not voting be a part of the political process?
Is that an oxymoron?
If one chooses not to vote then they are making a statement, perhaps, that they are indeed dissatisfied with the choices presented to them.
Oh I see...but they better not about anything if they weren't willing to vote.
Yeah, I know...but what about freedom of speech.
I see your point but to me that's like pouting.
Duff, YOU are the exact kind of person I am talking about.
You sit there and love to about things such as gay marrige, yet I'm almost positive you did NOTHING but sit on your ass yesterday and during the entire 2 weeks of early voting.
Proove me wrong and say you voted.
People who don't vote are free to all they want... it just won't do them any good.
Please tell me what anything I would do would have changed gay marriage anyway? Kerry is against it, so is Bush. So what difference does it make? Was a ban on gay marriage in the Texas ballot?
There you go young Manuel. He was making a statement by not voting.
Good day.
