Ill be the first to say parker has improved leaps and bounds in the past 3 years. I dont know if that is measured statistically but its plain to see, I scream at the television a lot less now.

on the other hand, I agree that manu has proven he can take over in a way that tony hasnt. i think its a little unfair to both of them to let parker handle everything in the regular season then throw manu behind the wheel in the playoffs. I think they both need to play and get their turn running the offense each game, so they know what they can or cant do. it would be much better for the spurs for them both to avg 18 than for one to do 24 and the other 12.

but yeah why bother having a rational basketball discussion when this clearly is about baiting and flaming between the churches.

Maybe it's just me...but I never understood the arguement that Parker is "just a regular season player" and Manu is the "Playoff performer." Yes, Manu had a great run in the 2005 championship, but how easily does everyone forget Parker's play because of a few bad games in the playoffs? As if Manu didn't have his fair share of bad games as well.

I look at Parker's playoff performance in the Lakers series in 2003 (Game 6), his performance against the Suns are Marbury also in 2003, his 26.7 ppg or whatever it was against the Grizzlies which helped us compeltely sweep them in the first round, his clutch play in OT against the hot Nuggets on the road in the first round in 2005 which helped us win in 5, his performance in Game 6 last year against the Kings that helped us close out that series. Moreover, wasn't Parker leading the team in PPG and/or FG% on the road in the playoffs?

Why is it that people have such selective memory when it comes to Parker's play, but seem to easily forgive and forget Manu's bad games in the playoffs? There's really no comparison to make, they play diff positions and play for the same team!

A friend and I were recently discussing Tony's style of game.

On the one hand, I think it is great that Tony can score big numbers as well as handle the ball as a point guard.

However, Tony tends to make me nervous because I get the feeling he is going to take so many shots regardless of how he is shooting that night or who else might be open.

Granted, that fear is a little hypocritical of me since Timmy always shoots a lot and I never fault him for it.
I guess I sometimes have trouble adjusting to the fact that Tony in not a typical point guard- at least not as I picture one.

Tony Parker is the only player in league averaging 20-plus points, 5-plus assists, and shooting better than 50 percent. ... T

its probably because when parker has played best in the playoffs we havent won a championship. I said it myself, its unfair to parker to expect him to be the 2nd option in the reg. season and then just hand it over to manu in the playoffs. just like its unfair to expect manu to take over that role from one day to the other. they both need their touches and continuity in their roles to help the spurs win.

I can't recall a game where all three of them had monster nights. It seems that it's usually two out of the three that score big and the other makes other contributions or just has an off night.
That's because the game of basketball has the same problem as an All Woman's college - not enough balls to go around

How about acknowledging Parker was the only reason they had ashot in that series.

WIth 2 bum legs and messed up muscles...
The only reason we even stayed close in that series is one name: Tim Duncan. If hed have hit his shots in the OT of Game 7, we'd have won that series. But when you're the only person doing consistently for an entire series on a "bum foot," it makes for tired legs indeed. He just ran out of energy in the tank in that last overtime, proven by the IV's he had to be administered in the locker room afterwards.

Halalalalala ... okay i don't answer to the first post which is ridiculous but to the other who still underestimated our PG ?

    Why ?
Chris Paul ? He has the ball and he allow to make what he wants to ... he really sucked in world championship when he don't have to make all the plays.

Jason kidd ? come on, he can't make a jump shot and has a 20% FG playoff in career ...
Nash : no defense, no championship ... but he's a great guy ...

Tp is fast, accurate (even with his jump shot now), very coachable, and better everyyear.

With Manu fading more and more each year(yeah, I think he struggled with his game since the 2005 championship), TP will have some responsabilities in Playoff and he will see if he can also be a killer when it counts ...
I also want to say that he's a good playoff player (each year his playoffs stats> regular one) but not a killer as Kobe is for example or Manu was ...
His defense is good but it can't be his best asset considering his height/weight.
Manu can make big plays on both end of court.

I hope TP or Manu will hit some winning shot in playoff (or don't foul Dirk as a Junior high-school player who wants to make highlights ... damn you on this one Manu ).

Let Pop decide which one of this guy will have the ball to win a championship.

    Drclic.

I love Manu and I am really happy to see him playing like de Manu we all know.
but it would be totally unfair to say that Parker is not playing good, because he just had a bad game (which it wasnt that bad at all, he just didnt score +20 like we all are getting used to see)

Tony didn't have a good game, but even though he took some ill-advised shots and wasn't hitting, Tony played a great 4th qtr. He stayed out of Tim's and Manu's way, he moved the ball around, something he didnt' do in the ealier part of the game and more importantly Pop is still coaching him on how to play his positon something Pop didnt' do a lot of last year, keeping pretty quiet whenever Tony and Van Exel messed up. That is not happening this year. These last two games Pop had a very short fuse when it came to Tony forcing shots and not looking for the open man.
    Very true
