I'd have to see it. But if it's 5K emerald cut in the middle and the nice size diamonds on the side, then I'd guess somewhere around $250-300K. Diamonds vary a lot in price depending on cut, color and clarity. You can get a 5K carat diamond (just for the diamond) anywhere between 100K and 400K, depending on the quality.

For example, this diamond is 119K.

This diamond (almost same size) is 291K.

yeah... spending 300k on a diamond has to be the most idiotic thing anyone can do Still, I guess if you have enough money to throw away, 300k isn't that big of a deal.

Is that supposed to be the ring? That's an Asscher cut, not an emerald cut. The ring I saw also had trillion sidestones rather than a row of channel set diamonds.

The trillions didn't look to be bigger than standard size, so probably around .25 carats or smaller each.

Funny you should say that, one of our economics students did a thesis last year about investment grade diamonds and whether or not it was a worthwhile investment.

His conclusion was that it was a decent investment if you wanted to lock up money - they do not depreciate if they are properly cared for (obviously a huge scratch or something will cause depreciation) and diamonds can increase in value depending on market climate, but it was not a good long term solution for someone looking to make money. Additionally, smaller good quality stones are easier to move than bigger high quality stones because they can be sold anonymously.

So, any money-launderers, white collar criminals, drug lords, etc. take note - it would be wise to liquidate some cash into small diamonds of high quality (around 1 to 1.5 carat) and keep them in a place that you can easily access while on the run, since you are more likely to be able to sell them off easily for cash than other items and are small enough to be easily hidden.

At least diamonds won't depreciate the same way fancy cars will.

You just hate women, so your opinion isn't valued here.

You don't love women; all you do is trash them. Actually you should be gay. Not that all gay men hate women. But you obviously don't like women, so maybe you like men.

You mean you masturbate to pictures of those kind of women, not that you love them. You disrespect all women (young, old, beautiful, washed up) constantly in your posts.

aah... didn't think of that. I suppose you're right. I was thinking more along the lines of buying the engagement ring so you wife can wear it. 300k is WAY too much money to spend on a ring, unless ofcourse you intend to sell it later on and are looking just to lock up cash as you say.
