people act like all 1.3 billion chinese have access to the internets. the vast majority don't have access to computers and i'd be willing to bet that the ones that do, aren't spending all their time voting for yao. yes, a lot of chinese are going to vote for him, but people blow it way out of proportion.
the one thing that does sway it a bit is that they tend to vote for his teammates as well... which does put a damper on things... because more likely than not... they don't deserve it.

They're Yao Ming's countrymen. They vote for him because they support him. Which is clearly not the case of the Knicks fans whose mantra is "Do good and we'll support you, Do bad and we will castrate you". Just ask Patrick Ewing when he was leading the Knicks to victory you so called New Yorkers rallied behind him. When the team was in the doldrums I bet you led the chant of trade him. You're calling Yao Ming garbage. Why? just because Nate "Frodo Baggins" Robinson blocked his shot? Big deal. Whose team has the better record asshole? If there is anything in the NBA that deserves to be called you garbage it's your team. Imagine having the league's highest payroll and coming up with nothing.
