    wtf was Elson doing there....
I'm guessing he's friends with James White. Either that or he's warming up for New Year's Eve Austin style.

Thanks for the update, ChumpDumper. Were White's steals a result of good man-to-man defense or was he just roaming? I ask because Pop looks down upon steals for the most part, especially if they are gambling type steals.

Also, any improvement as far as his rebounding? Numbers looked better.

    I'll vote that.

Steals: He was actually staying pretty close to his man, but he was able to get his hands on alot of passes. He didn't make those huge kind of gambles that would end up taking him out of the play. He also helped out on the (really) big men when the defense collapsed and got a couple of steals off of them. I thought they should have done alot more of that than they did.

Rebounds: Like I said, he was looking more comfortable out there, and being a little less concerned about contact was part of it. Also, Idaho was running really big lineups, but White and Smith could often outrun and outjump them, so several of their boards were of the second-effort, tip-it-to-yourself variety.

White shines: Spurs rookie guard James White scored 23 points Saturday for the Developmental League Austin Toros.

The Spurs sent a large contingent — Elson, assistant general manager Sam Presti, director of pro player personnel Dell Demps and assistant strength coach Chris White — to watch James White, who also had six rebounds and six steals. In four games for the Toros, White is averaging 17.3 points while shooting 47.9 percent.
The Spurs recalled White last week when Manu Ginobili, Matt Bonner and Brent Barry were sick, but reassigned him to Austin on Friday.

Popovich believes White is benefiting more from playing for the Toros than merely watching during Spurs' games.

"I'd love to get him on the court and see how he plays," Popovich said, "but we've got so many guys ahead of him right now. That's why we sent him down to Austin, so he could get some playing time.

"We just want him to get as much experience there as we can and get him to understand what we'd like him to improve on. We'll just see what transpires as the year progresses."

The Spurs want to see how White develops as a defender.

"What a guy does defensively is of much greater concern to me than what he does in any offensive system," Popovich said. "We want him to learn how to play individual and team defense, and no matter what system anybody is using, those situations exist and you evaluate."

I can't figure out why they're doing this. Were the Toros just not using him correctly? Or was Pop just trying to bring him back because of all the injuries/sicknesses within the team?
of course he was called up from Austin because of the team-wide flu. it wasnt just a coincidence that he happened to be on the active list when 3 players were out
