Confidence??
can he hit the shot or not...in the gym yes...to win a game.....NO
I guess that's what happens when you have a psychology major as your coach. Maybe the Spurs should hire a math major.
To be perfectly honest, if Bonner hits that shot I'm even more critical of the decision. Taking a three when you are tied is STUPID. If you dribble out the clock, you only need one or two. What's wrong with a drive to the basket and actually taking the layup? It seems like Tony Parker hit those at a rather high percentage at one point.
Confidence??

it was a wide open look, cant fault bonner for shooting it
True. The only thing worse would have been if he'd passed it up and let the clock run out. Of course, it wouldn't have made any difference.
Games in January count the same as games in April. It was a dumb play. The Spurs already have 3 stars, they don't need a 4th. Bonner's confidence is now likely shaken and I wouldn't be surprised if he goes into a slump.
Do your talking come Friday!
@ Spurs fans think that a game in January should be treated as Game 7 of the NBA Finals.
How do you think Pop helped players like Stephen Jackson and Manu Ginobili become big time clutch players? Do you think he did it by never giving them a chance late in a game? Throw a scrub a bone every now and then.
Tie game in January, I expect Pop to let someone other than the Big Three to try to win it. The whole defense is keying on those three and any misdirection play will leave a player wide open. It worked and the Spurs got the shot they wanted.
I Gotta agree with that. Reverse Psychology.
Hits the shot, he gains confidence. Misses the shot, loses confidence.
It was a dumb ing play call.
No, it wasn't. Sorry LJ. Manu had just taken it to the hoop and gotten a bucket not a minute earlier.
Manu going to the rack >>>> Bonner shooting a 25 footer. Bonner was shooting so well he finished 4-10.
Since when was Manu a scrub that needed a 'bone' thrown his way? And Buckets never was gun shy.How do you think Pop helped players like Stephen Jackson and Manu Ginobili become big time clutch players? Do you think he did it by never giving them a chance late in a game? Throw a scrub a bone every now and then.
Big difference between those two and one Matt Bonner.
timvp should just become a spurs assistant coach
i think its time for pop to take a step back and allow PJ to take over....
Ginobili is Argentina's top player and has taken that shot numerous times in international ball. Bonner is no Ginobili. When Jackson was with the Spurs they didn't have any star perimeter players so that isn't a good argument either. Dumb play.
He already shares Pop's brain I think. During the timeout, he said "Bonner for 3" and I laughed it off.![]()
as long he doesn't share Pop's subs ution patterns I'm all for Timvp taking over
![]()
Stephen Jackson sucked at one point until Pop showed confidence in him. Manu was a pretty good player, but when Pop gave him the rock to win or lose games, that's when he became a star.
To a lesser degree, giving a guy like Bonner a shot to win the game in a situation where at worst it goes to overtime, is a good idea. Not only will he be wide open, it's a good chance to see what he can do when the pressure is on.
And for those saying why shoot a three ... uh, have you watched Bonner? He's a three-point shooter. If I want him to take a wide open jumper to win the game, it might as well be in a place where he's comfortable on the floor.
Good play call. Good execution of the play. If it goes in, Spurs fans go to sleep with visions of a three-point victory dancing in their heads.
does manu have to shot all the big time shots late in the fourth?
do you sleep with manu?
you fool the other team buy going to duncan and other players once in awhile
the GAME WAS TIED they were not losing
BIG DIFFERENCE
TIMVP is right on as usual.
Like shoogar said, most predictable thread of the night.
Loss is blamed on pop. What a shocker.
There's a reason why he's wide open in that situation. Give him that shot at the end of the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd quarters, NOT the end of the game. Dumb play. Make sure you post a thread the next time Bonner wins a game with a last second shot. I gotta feeling it ain't gonna happen.
How about you post in a thread the next time the Blazers make the playoffs.
See you in about 5 years.
Typical response from someone with no knowledge of the game.
Typical response from someone with no intelligent response.
I understand the logic of the play but I think a better confidence booster to the team would have been a win. Go for the two since that is all you need and you've come back from 17 down for the W. Right now they are all probably feeling ty that they busted their asses and came away with another loss. Either way, Friday is a huge huge game.
now Pop gets credit for making SJax an NBA Baller who goes in the stands and shoots his gun outside a strip club....
please stop.
