I'll wait for the MRI...I had him in 3 of my fantasy leagues.

    *depression sets in*

This just adds to my losing Charlie V, Mo Williams, and Kwame Brown in the last week.

"This is just terrible," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "When he came down, you could see his heel jam into the ground and I reacted right away because I could see it, I could feel it"

Rivers said Allen's injury is probably an ACL tear, but the MRI results won't be available until Thursday.

Sorry for the loss guys, sucks for fantasy teams all around the NBA world...

Last year Francisco Garcia was injured after jumping up to help the ref unstick the ball from between the rim and backboard. Garcia came down on Brad Miller's foot (who was just standing there, lol) and was injured for almost the entire 2nd half of the season.

The look on Miller's face was priceless: "Why the $*%& did you do THAT?"

I like watching Tony Allen play. And that wasn't showboating. He was just completing the play ... which happens at least a dozen times per game.

    Sucks

No, the whistle blew a full 2.5 seconds before he even took off... he was definitely trying to give the home fans a little something to watch since he would be untouched on his way to the hoop... the collective "awww" from the crowd was at the miss, not his fall - that is, until it was obvious he wasn't going to get up...

I wouldn't call it "showboating" but it definitely wasn't "completing the play"

Looked like that would give at least a sprained left MCL. and cartilege?
No word on the Celtic website.

He was just coming back from right knee injury:
    http://www.nba.com/celtics/news/note...907-allen.html

Ballas, their own worst enemies. One would think one long knee injury would instill some reflexive caution against silly, unnecessary moves.

Dunking well after the whistle IS show-boating. Cool dunks are about the only thing "positive" about the Celtics.

Holy crap, I saw it this morning. Poor guy

And I wouldn't call it showboating, I doubt he was even thinking of the fans when he did it. He just wanted to dunk the ball like how many other players lay the ball in or dunk after a foul or timeout.

In hindsight it seems dumb, but 99% of the time a player does this he doesn't injure himself and no one complains.

poor guy. you mofos laughing, I hope you break your knees soon. so what if he tried to dunk it? that's what kids do. I can see rookie Lebron, or Wade doing that.

He ing tried to dunk a ball, it's not like he was showboating on his motorcycle w/no helmet

Exactly. People love to jump on bandwagons bashing players. You see that all the time, and anyone who has played basketball has continued on like that at some point. Its just a freak play.

No , no one consideres going up for an open dunk some unnessecary risk. Its a wide open dunk.

This reminds me of that one time that the fan was celebrating after hitting the halfcourt shot at the Bulls game (I think). Dude went for a belly-slide and broke his face instead. I'll look for the link.

Allen Out For Season With Two Torn Ligaments

(AP) BOSTON Celtics guard Tony Allen is out for the season with two torn ligaments in his left knee.

Coach Doc Rivers says Allen will be out of action for at least six months, maybe longer.

Allen was taken to New England Baptist Hospital after injuring his left knee in the final three minutes of the third quarter last night against Indiana.

Allen went up for a free dunk, and landed awkwardly on his knee. He spent minutes writhing in pain until teammates carried him off the court.

Allen is the latest name added to a long list of Celtics players on the bench.

Forward Wally Szczerbiak is out for at least a week because of recurring ankle injuries, while guard Delonte West remains day-to-day with a sore back.

Theo Ratliff is out for the season with a back injury and Paul Pierce has been out since December 20th with a stress reaction in his left foot.

People aren't laughing at the injury. People are laughing at him for getting injured while showboating.

"two torn ligaments in his left knee."

Wow, torn in two, partially torn?

Wide open dunk, apparently well after the ball was dead.
    Totally unnecessary, just showboating.

Uh ... you do watch Amare Stoudemire play basketball, don't you? How many times has he done what Tony Allen did over the years? Pre-injury, he'd dunk after almost every whistle. Not to mention Nash shooting all the time after the whistle. If Nash shot after the whistle and came down and broke his ankle, I don't think you'd be laughing.

    Exactly

And once again, its not like going up for a dunk with no one there is a dangerous situation. Had this happend during a pregame shootaround, would people have belivied his dunking was unessecary and showboating?

Damn. He is in 2 of my fantasy teams. I have 1 team at NBA UFC with Chris Paul in my line-up. I dropped the injured Brevin Knight for Tony Allen. Nice pickup for some weeks, until this. Freaking injury season in this league.

What's weird is that you care for players if you're playing fantasy basketball. And neither do I laugh at injury situations such as these.

BOSTON (AP) -- Boston Celtics guard Tony Allen will miss the rest of the season with two torn ligaments in his left knee.

Coach Doc Rivers said Thursday that Allen, a first-round draft pick out of Oklahoma State in 2004, will be out at least six months. Allen hurt the knee when he landed awkwardly after an uncontested dunk in the final minutes of a 97-84 loss to Indiana on Wednesday.
