I haven't given up on the Spurs. I think the Big Three have what it takes. The rest of the team needs to catch up. The bench play is horrible right now. The Spurs can pull it together. Its a matter of will they.

Admitting the teams roster flaws or stating their weaknesses is not giving up - it's being realistic.

It's considered inappropriate for players must save face by making positive statements to the media. Fortunately for us, we have the ability and the forum to be a bit more candid in our opinions.

Anyone can say "believe", as well as anyone can say "we suck, we're done." How about coming up with some reasons to back this stuff up...

    Why do you still believe?

    Why are the Spurs done?

Give detailed examples, not this "we're old... Pop sucks... Holt's cheap" . I'm not disputing those statements, but games are won on the court, and if there are specific and legitimate reasons you think this team can't get it together on the court let's hear it.

Spurs aren't done. There's still time to improve. Yet they need an infusion of another, different type of player with skills that Barry, Finley and Bowen do not have.

It became obvious to me during the WCSF series versus the Mavs that the roster needed "tweaking for improvement", not just "tweaking to dump salaries". The mere fact that Pop changed his entire style of play in that series was ominous. It meant that he realized the recent rule changes limiting perimeter contact along with his traditional lineups were ineffective against a younger, quicker more athletic teams.

Now we will never know what the outcome of that series would have been had he not reverted to "small ball". Yet it was clear then they didn't have the type of players needed for this new style. It's still clear today. With that said, there's no excuse for not adding more quickness, scoring and athleticism at the SF position over the summer.

I heard a stat the other night that in each of the Spurs losses so far, they have been outscored in the 3rd quarter. They cannot seem to muster the will, energy of efficiency needed to "ward off" their opponent's best shot in that quarter.

I can see from his face, Duncan still believes. We have a chance to get 5th seed in the West and win it all.

You wanna know why i think the spurs lost last night? Tm Duncan was off. Those little hookshots he always makes, he wasn't last night. it was a momentum buster when we needed to string together some shots to take the lead. It was a close game until the last few minutes. We had what it takes.

Everyone has an off game. The spurs know what they need to do. They were doing great for most of the game, except for two key stretches in the third and fourth.

I don't believe since that's blind hope at this point. Plus it gives a false sense that our team is actually fine the way it is.

I believe the big 3 will give it their all each and every game.
I don't believe the same can be said about the whole team.

I'd stick with the Spurs even if they lost 60 games in a row, but that doesn't mean I think they can win it all.

I'll believe if the bench ever steps up.
I'll believe if the front office ever does something.

I seriously thought after that interview is when we started going into championship form and finish the RRT 7-1 or 6-2. Now? I don't know. It's not too late to go 6-2 but it won't have the same meaning.

That's exactly what I thought when I heard the live interview.

After hearing Manu saying "We Believe," I knew he was a SpursTalk lurker. He must be a fan of Timvp.

Sorry to break it to you, but in the NBA games are won off the court as well. It's an organizations' way of helping prepare a championship squad. This is a business. And you have the on-the-court business, and off-the-court business, and both have to be carefully managed for a team to be successfull. In a way it's like High School or College b ball--the good teams are always the top recruiters.

Old age is no less a legitimate reason for their on-the-court problems than anything else, and if you need someone to be direct about the many flaws they have that are related to it just take look at some of the other threads of the last month, because everything that can be said has pretty much already been said. And it's exactly that--the obviousness of their faults, and the Everalsting neglect of the front office to deal with them--that has pissed a lot of people off.

And to the person who said "a true fan never stops believing":

A true fan never stops being a fan. Thats really it, because at some point it will become clear to EVERYONE that this team will not go far. At this point, the only thing seperating the "believers" and "non-believers" is time--and nothing to do with flawed assessment.

I mean, do you really think every Hawk fan out there for the past million years believes there team can win a championship?

They are just fans. It has nothing to do with believing or not believing.

    Exactly.

A true fan never gives up on their team.

I fully recognize that the Spurs are not the best team in the league right now but I still plan to root and support them and I realize that until all the games are played they still have a chance. I was there when they were 20-62 and 62-20. The Spurs still have the 3rd best record in the league and have a legitimate shot at a le. There are tons of fans out there who would love their teams to be where the Spurs are.

    I still believe, Spurs fans.

    Do you?
A true Fan has to be realistic what is happening with this team, but NOT be JUST blindfolded, screaming "GO SPURS GO" without even thinking about the travesty going with this team...Hey, I ALSO believe that I will be the next Bill Gates, but unfortunately the chances for me to be like him are very, very, very, very low...supporing the team in general has NOTHING TO DO with faith and belief - If you are REALLY TRUE FAN OF THE SPURS, YOU HAVE TO CALL HOLT, POP AND THE MANAGEMENT and tell them to make trades, draft players, increase the budget (because we are away behind the Mavs in the spending department), in order to be compe ive in the NBA...If they don't want to do that and basically F**K around with our main guys, we CAN'T SIT DOWN AND WATCH...Belief has nothing to do with what's right for this team...and certainly the travesty Holt and the Management is doing to the Fans is unheard of!!! Timmy, Manu, Tony and Barry HAVE NO HELP from ANYONE besides Horry from time to time, but he is also OLD...These are the issues you need to address if you are REALLY a SPURS FAN - otherwise, what you are talking about is given for every true fan, who has his season ticket, NBA League Pass, support the team with traveling, etc.

    GO SPURS!!!

Manu_The _Best, I agree with you 100% but I think you may have misinterpreted my post. I believe that a true fan supports their team whether they are winning or losing. I am not saying that Spurs fans shouldn't call for change or shouldn't be pissed if they lose. I absolutely believe you should and as a loyal fan, you want the best possible team on the floor. You want the coaches, players and management to do everything possible to win. You can be totally pissed at your team and still be loyal to them. In no way am I staying the team should stand pat.....improvements need to be made and as a loyal and true fan, I will be pissed if they aren't but I will not stop being a fan.

You didn't exactly say it, I just inferred that you meant it because of your response to one of the posters that said he would never stop believing.

It was only in the relationship of your response to that posters that the statement "a true fan never gives up on his team", was taken out of context.

Do you get what I'm saying? If you didn't mean it that way I understand where you are coming from though...

Same here... they are light years away from being non-contenders...But as the season progresses and the losses pile up I become increasingly pessimistic about this teams capabilities.

But I'm also aware that the Spurs have the potential to having an extremely good play-off run, while the Mavs and Suns are equally prone to play bad in the playoffs. Within reasonable cirumstances, anything can happen. The Spurs aren't the Hawks or anything ... and the Mavs and Suns aren't the Bulls, despite what some of them might think.

Ok, I probably misread it, however, if a Fan brings the subject of what's wrong with the team and say "Spurs Fans pack your bags", it doesn't mean he is NOT supportive - it means he is fed up with the current Owner and the Management for the lack of activity to make this team MUCH better - they show a total disreptect to the average Fan, who spends his hard earned $$$ for tickets, travel, etc. (the last time I was in Boston, and taped the warm up if you remember!)!?! However, I also support the PLAYERS like yourself, who gave us so much joy in the last 7 years, don't get me wrong...but, when the management is doing NOTHING to improve this team, my point is/was strike the management somehow...that's ALL.

    GO SPURS!!!
