Plus I know this is small but the concerts(which are one of the big attractions) are much better in the At&t center than they would be at the Alamo Dome.

Apparenly, the complaint is that the County should lease out the Alamodome to hold its Rodeo. Isolated concerts don't give the same heartache.

I'm sure, though, that these are the same people who think that the Spurs should lease out the Alamodome when they play in the NBA Finals.

yeah if you think this rodeo is a big deal, Houston makes this one look like a flea market.
They do it up HUGE, right down to the musical acts. Hannah Montana and the Cheetah Girls are headlining this year.

The SA rodeo has been picked the best rodeo in the country the last two years
I'd love to know who votes on that.

Its a crock of it wins ahead of Houston's...

Why is this a big deal? I, for one, rather like the rodeo trip. It's a (semi) distinctive aspect of the Spurs. And, in at least two of our championship years, you could make the argument that team turned the corner on the trip.

Some road trips in the NBA just this season...

    Code:
Chicago Circus (7 games, 12 days)
Disney Ice (7 games, 12 days)
San Antonio	Rodeo (8 games, 14 days)
LA Lakers	Grammys (8 games, 13 days)
LA Clippers	Grammys (7 games, 11 days)
Philadelphia Disney Ice (7 games, 11 days)
New Jersey 6 games, 10 days
    Boston 5 games, 7 days
Road trips are a fact of life in any sport, any level. San Antonio gets off pretty easy with the 5 day break, too. They also give the team a break in the early part of the season by having lots of home games near each other.

    Quit your ing.

I think my point was is that the concept of a SS&R is so important to Texas that every city has one. I wasn't saying Houston's wasn't big.

You're turning into the Buddy Holly of SS&Rs in this thread. No need for compe ion here (as much as I dislike Houston).

It'd be akin to Arkansas having gatherings and yearly events that give scholarships to people whose lives are based in something that's prevalent and necessary for the survival of the state: sibling ing.
This is Arkansas not Alabama bud.

The only thing the Alamodome is good for is football and Spurs championship rallys.

Another case of "I don't like it...let's get rid of it!".

There's an awful lot of us here in South Texas who happen to love the rodeo and everything it stands for (although if I were in charge, the musical entertainment would be 110% better than it is now).

Define TOP TOP country acts, Tpark.

Willie Nelson, Alan Jackson, and Brooks & Dunn are the only acts even CLOSE to being Top Country acts.

Trace Adkins, Neil McCoy, Lee Ann Womack and Montgomery Gentry are barely half-way decent.

Gretchen Wilson, Big & Rich, Josh Turner and Sugarland are yawners...The Bellamy Brothers are done...Gary Allan flat out sucks ass.

The only ray of sunshine in this year's crappy line up is the fact that the Rodeo folks have finally started to realize that Nashville sucks.

Kevin Fowler, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Randy Rogers Band, Wade Bowen, and Stoney LaRue...now THERE'S a good start at a TEXAS music lineup!

    Point well taken.

I might like Gary Allan if he wasn't shoved down my throat by the idiots in Nashville as "country".

I like a lot of Shania Twain's songs, but I despise her for being a very big nail in the coffin that what used to be country is buried in.

Hey, I was at the Big and Rich concert, and I thought they were really good. You don't REALLY need an A-list star to have a good time, you know.

Some folks have given reasons why the ATT center is on the Rodeo grounds, but the thread was about the Rodeo moving>

Some additional reasons why the rodeo won't move downtown:
    1. City vs County politics of the governmental bodies and office holders.

    2. Vested interests of powerful folks. I don't think many of you understand how things work in SA. There are lots of powerfully connected folks who have a long history with the Rodeo at the county site and who have run it for years. Did you know that Mary Nan West, the Rodeo President, used to have a personal doublewide mobile home on a space at the the Rodeo grounds owned by the county when she was in town from her ranch? These folks aren't about to give up their 'play-purty''s home ground for the Spurs and put themselves under the City.

    3. Money. The Rodeo folks spurred the County to action and saved the Spurs from leaving--but they get a nice year round subsidy in the way of lease payments on the new building. Their old Collusium building was getting less and less in the way of leased events other than the Rodeo. So it wasn't all altruism that buildt the ATT center.

so did the spurs ownership and rodeo ownership make some kind of joint agreement to the county, or are they just plain old rental contracts? sounds like they doubleteamed the county to pay up!

and what does the city do with the alamodome?

    (I'm just a curious foreigner)

Im talking Houston, not San ANtonio.

The sa rodeo could do like 150 trillion times greater than it does.

Josh Turner is cool now, dont get country high and mighty now
