Nobody (even Pop) knows whether a player is ready to contribute in the NBA until he gets to play. Some guys are "gametime" players and no one knows which ones until they get the chance.
You think he would have showed it more on the Toros then.

I just hope White gets the opportunity to prove himself next year. Unlike Butler, he is not on contract past next season, so unless Finley opts out, Barry gets traded, or Bowen inexplicably retires, White will not have an opportunity to show whether he is a long-term value to this team.

They obviously got him because he has some athleticism and potential. They put him down in the minors so he would get some playing time at the minor-pro level which is just a notch above college. Remember that most college teams have only one or two players that have any NBA potential at all so to standout at college doesn't make him a lock for the NBA. AT the minor level all the players were great in college--but still aren't in the elite circle of players than can move on up.

I've heard Pop say for years that players have to earn time on the court and he won't play favorites.

In the case of White, Butler, etc, his judgement is they haven't earned time on the court ahead of the players they are behind.

throwing down sick dunks doesn't equate to being NBA ready
Yes it does, you ever hear of one of the all time greats, a Mister Harold "Baby Jordan" Minor?

He probably isn't ready but that doens't mean Pop's evaluation of talent is always 100% rational. The Van Exel disaster still riles me. Short of getting in trouble with the law, that guy was about as anti-Spur as I could imagine. Lazy, out of shape, ill-advised shots, no defense...yet he kept getting minutes over and over again.

Pop was hoping for a Robert Horry moment out of Van Exel that never happened. There's no saying Udrih would have been better.

What does it mean on these message boards when people write "my bad"?

Also--what does it mean when someone just writes "word"?

As for White--I have a feeling that James is being groomed for some time during the playoffs. I know people are going to say I am stupid for saying this but I would not be surprised to see both Butler and White see some time in the playoffs.

    Assuming you are really asking...

My bad = That was my fault.

Word = I agree with you.

I guess he's not playing in the D-League All-Star Game after all.
LAS VEGAS, Feb. 14, 2007 – Luke Schenscher of the Fort Worth Flyers, Quemont Greer of the Dakota Wizards and Rick Rickert of the Colorado 14ers have been named as replacements for the inaugural Gillette D-League All-Star Game in association with 24 Hour Fitness. The game will be held on February 17, 2007 on Center Court at NBA All-Star Jam Session presented by adidas at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. The game will tip off at 2 p.m. PT and be televised live on NBA TV.

Schenscher replaces Jared Reiner and Greer takes the spot of James White on the East team. Reiner earned a GATORADE Call-Up to the Milwaukee Bucks from Sioux Falls on February 8 and White was recalled to the San Antonio Spurs from the Austin Toros on January 27. Rickert replaces his Colorado teammate Louis Amundson, who signed a 10-day contract with the Utah Jazz on February 5.

The 2007 Gillette D-League All-Star Game in association with 24 Hour Fitness will air live on NBA TV. NBA TV is available through several of the nation's top cable and satellite companies, including Comcast; Time Warner; Cox; Cablevision; Bright House; DIRECTV; and DISH Network. NBA TV can be seen in 65 other countries, including France, Russia, Spain, the Philippines and Uruguay, as well as in Hong Kong and throughout the Middle East.

I guess they don't want to risk that a nba player get an injury in a Dleague event and that they want to let them practicing with their nba team.

I'm thinking it's a technicality like it counts as a send-down or something stupid like that.

Preach on my brotha! Talk about your personnel disasters. That was one x 10.

The only other personnel disaster that still ranks higher for me is them passing on Josh Howard - I can't let it go! Sorry folks!

...i would really like to see white play too...but the only player he could take min from is finley...that wont happen cause we will need fin in the playoffs unlike white...but he should be in the dunk contset tho if he ever gets on the court and dunks a ball...like to see a spur as the dunk champion
