I think he complimented him on a set. Joe said it inspired him to want to write some jokes (basically up his game), not steal his . At least that is what I understood him to be saying about Chapelle.

He said he gets inspired by good comedians. He said he saw Chappelle do stand up in the Comedy Store (were they where) a few weeks before that and after the set he went home and wanted to start writing material because he was inspired.
He said when he sees Carlos he is just amazed at the amount of material he steals.
I saw Mencia at Rivercenter Comedy Club and he ing blew assssssss! His friend Bobby Lee opened up he was funny as nice guy to. After the show Mencia was outside with his wife and charging for autographs. One funny thing though his whole act was making fun of white people and his wife sure as looked white. Go figure what a loser!

Carlos' original material (well, at least what I think is original) is funny and (it's been at least two years since I've seen him in SA) he was always pretty humble and down-to-earth anytime I spoke with him (this was before MoM because he took some time at the end to give us a heads-up and a thanks for supporting him in the beginning).
Joe Rogan is a bad-ass, funny mother er.
I will never understand (well, other than with copious amounts of liquor) why people heckle headlining comics (because if this was in Nov 06, this was on the Miller Lite tour with Rogan, Charlie Murphy and some other guy I can't remember right now).
They didn't get to be headlining comics by cracking under some heckling.
