Love the bravado. Let me guess, you were curled up in the fetal position in a closet last year after talking smack to Heat fans right?

The propensity your team has for folding, I wouldn't put anything past them. I don't think the Spurs can catch the Mavs but I also don't think HCA will be all that important in the postseason.

You would think last year would have taught some Mav fans a little humility.

Personally, I wouldn't want to set a goal like that then fall short, as it makes whatever record you have seem like you are let down. Just like when we were trying to catch the T-Wolves in 2004.

There is no reason to worry about best record, as it hasn't meant much lately. It is who plays the best when it counts. #1 seed only means you get to play at home.

The last WC #1 seed to not only get to the Finals but to win it all was the Spurs in 2003.
You have to go back to 2000 to find the next one, which was the Lakers.

You're setting yourself up for even more disappointment if you think the Spurs will catch up to the Mavs.

I don't think they will catch up to them at all until their playoff series.

If the Mavs Lose Tomm. night(not saying they will) and the Spurs win all games from March 6th through the 10th the Spurs could be 4.5 games behind Dallas
Not that your point was valid anyway, but it's not even mathematically correct. Spurs would gain 1 game tonight assuming they win and a Mavs loss (7.5 games back), then would gain .5 for each of the 3 games they play until Saturday while the Mavs have some time off (6 games back).

Yeah they folded pretty bad in game 7 in SA too as I recall. Damn propensity for folding. How will the Mavs ever overcome it?!

Good point, you beat me to it.......

The only thing anyone needs to look at is the loss column since every team plays the same amount of games.

Matters not if the Spurs have played 3 more games and catch up in the GB column.

By this method, they would still effectively be 8 games back come March 10 if the scenario played out.

It's terms like this from Mavs fans that further reinforce my belief that they have zero perspective.

Can they get the second seed in the West if they have a better record than the Suns?

Not for the opening round. The division winners are 1, 2, & 3. I think it changes once you get to the second round.

Right. One data point does not a trend make. The Mavs history of choking is far more established in the postseason than their successes. Let's not forget the Mavs were up 3-1 in that series and very nearly choked that away too.

Again, all this to say that some Mav fans sense of confidence is surprising given their history.

    Talk about contradicting yourself.

And how does "very nearly" choking a series count more than "very nearly" winning a championship and not choking? Who gives a what "very nearly" happened.

The fact is you're doing exactly what you say is errant--judging a team as chokers based on one data point.

When have the Mavs ever choked away a playoff series other than in the NBA finals last year? I'm just curious about this "history" of them choking in the playoffs some of you are always talking about. I believe they've won just about every playoff series they were favored in and a couple they weren't favored in. I don't recall who the favorite was in the Mav/Suns 2nd round series in 2004 was. I do know that the Mavs didn't choke in that series, they just got beat. I don't recall them blowing a series while being the favorites. They almost did vs. the Trailblazers a few years back and they almost did vs. the Spurs last season...but they didn't and isn't that the point?
