I don't know if the team can wait 2 years on any new players to learn a system, and that's not an argument for holding on to our creaky veterans. Perhaps the system needs to change a bit to accomodate young talent.

Or, if we go out and get scorers who can't defend, hopefully they can at least actually score. Van Exel and Finley were scorers who didn't play defense and didn't actually score.

And yet the Spurs manage to bring in "role players" to play alongside Tim, Manu, and Tony every year. Just because the other players don't fully comprehend the system doesn't mean that a) they won't play or b) they won't be effective.

Scola might not pick up the nuances of Pop's system right away, but if you tell him to get on the court, hustle his ass off, and be aggressive...he'll be an effective player.
