How do you know he doesn't know the system?
Totally agree...like learning the system that he still doesn't know or how about shooting a shot outside the lane or knowing when to quit locking down on a player and getting to help position quickly?

What the is up with all the hate on James White? He's not even stepped on the court for us to evaluate his ability, pro or con.
Barring another championship banner being unveiled in November, there better be some guys in there 20's on the roster and I sure as would have a player who's got a year of being on the team in uniform.

Couldn't agree more. It's far too early to start giving up on a guy they don't know whether he can play or not. They better invest some time in this kid and see if he can play.
I'm so sick of these ers thinking every young player on this side of the world cannot play. They have overlooked young domestic talent long enough and it's high time, they start developing a couple of young players.
Unless, of course, the Spurs happen to have another, seasoned, "Euro-come-lately" up their ass, who hasn't seen the inside of NBA lockeroom.

I'm not sure sitting him this year, keeping him in the D-league, etc. necessarily means the Spurs have no hope for him. We have tons of experienced guys in there right now. At the 3, we have Bowen who never wants to sit, Fin (who they want to give 20 mins/night) and even Barry sometimes. Until Barry or Fin are traded, or until Bowen needs to play 20 mins a night, there is no way some rookie gets on the court when we are trying to win now. We had a 30 yr old rookie that barely played his first year last year (Oberto) and he was starting this year and playing a big role. Pop likes to prepare guys to succeed when they get out there and rookies make too many mistakes for his stomach to take.
Besides, the guy is skinny like a runway model, they probably want him to get some strength so he's not abused by grown men. A year with our strength coach will do some good if he's committed. Plus of course the ego deflation of not making a big splash and "given" anything his first year will make him appreciate it more when he does make his debut.
The draft and any trades/cuts will tell us if White has a future here. If we don't use our 1st rounder on a SF or trade for one or sign a free agent SF, they will probably give him a shot next year.

Where would James White be in this draft? Late 2nd round, maybe. There will be gouts of good swingmen falling into the early 2nd round this year, it'll be crazy, and I'd take most of them already over James White.

White is progressing nicely.
The shot is getting tuned, but more than anything he prides himself on defense and is busting his chops on becoming an above average defensive player.
Popovich loves the hustle and talent of the kid, but is mostly impressed by the defensive improvement.
Who better to learn than from Bowen, right?
