if the players see themselves as underdogs during playoffs, we have a great chance to celebrate for a fourth ring after a sweep over the first NBA finals appearance of King James
Yeah, I've been saying for a while that being under the radar and underdogs is exactly what this team needs. I think other teams respect us enough to know what we can do to them, but all eyes are on Phoenix and Dallas right now.

    Who's impressed/content/satisfied with 51-20 for now?
    :::Hearing a pin drop:::

    I thought so...

I will probably be the only one celebrating at the river walk for the championship too.
LMAO...you waited 3 min's for the "pin drop" reply...

During SA's bumpy 10-10 stretch from January 1-February 11, 7 of those 10 losses were by 5 points or less. Considering the way they play now, able to come back from a deficit, and/or close out close games, let's say they win at least 3 of those 7 5-point-or-less losses, it's a team that realistically can be 54-17.
    Interesting...

Does SpursDynasty really need to start a thread like this after every win?
    GO SPURSDYNASTY GO!!!

    Who cares?

Spurs will not be a factor at all in playoffs They will be one and done, at best. Pop needs to step down and let PJ take over next year, then TD might have a chance to win the 4th ring before he retires....maybe.

18-2 out of the last 20 is impressive. The two losses being to Milwaukee and Boston is not so impressive.

Except that the Spurs are no longer under the radar. Barkley can't say enough about how he thinks the Spurs are going to win it all this season and how the Suns are going to tire out. Hollinger has the Spurs at #1 in his silly rankings and all we ever hear these days when analysts talk about the playoffs is "BUT watch out for the Spurs." That's cool by me though, no reason the Spurs should be considered underdogs.

I think it's more like all eyes are on Nash and Nowitzki because of the MVP race...when it comes to the playoffs, not all eyes are on Phx and Dallas.

I would just like to say, that in the thread Just For Comparison back on 25 Jan, people jumped all over me for comparing our record to past years' records and saying how i was dumb and this is the worst Spurs team of the Duncan era and on and on.

I posted the following records by year:
    Records before end of Jan:

    1997-1998 30-14
1998-1999 32-13 (after like number of games)
    1999-2000 28-16
    2000-2001 29-15
    2001-2002 29-15
    2002-2003 29-16
    2003-2004 29-16
    2004-2005 34-10
    2005-2006 31-10
    2006-2007 30-14
    End of March:

    1997-1998 50-23 (.685) 4th seed - tied with Suns
    1998-1999 Strike year
    1999-2000 47-25 (.653) 5th seed - tied with Suns
    2000-2001 51-22 (.699) #1 seed
    2001-2002 49-24 (.671) 2nd seed
    2002-2003 53-20 (.726) #1 seed - tied with mavs
    2003-2004 50-25 (.667) 3rd seed - 2nd best record
    2004-2005 53-18 (.747) 2nd seed
    2005-2006 56-16 (.778) #1 seed
    2006-2007 51-20 (.718) 3rd seed? *1 game to go

Yes, means nothing, but seeds also can be overcome and record is very comperable to other good seasons. Don't give up.

Only 5 games difference, but Dallas is so far in front that it seems like a million games behind last year

    On Dec 20, the Spurs were 20 - 6.

    On Feb 11, were 34 - 18,

In that period, the Spurs were 14 - 12, a season rate of 44 - 38, with no excuses of injuries, as we had last year with Tim and Manu.

Now that the Spurs are playing better, the only explanation for 14 - 12 is mental. Teams will always have off-nights, but 14 - 12 over 6 weeks is a lot more than an off night.

The crazy thing is, if the Spurs can finish 9-2, they will still end up with 60W season.

It's gonna be hard to get 9-2 facing Mavs, Jazz, Suns, but it's do-able.

Another good regular season for the Spurs. Some of our losses were bad and drove me crazy but i guess any loss would do that. Too bad we didnt go undefeated

7 of 10 losses between January 1 and February 11 were by 5 points or less. Then they went and won 18 of their next 20. Crazy. If they win atleast 3 of those narrow losses (if they played then how they play now), we're talking about a team thats very capable of being 54-17. Wait, make it 4, because Dwight Howard will never win another game on a 0.7 dunk. He won't make it, 99 times out of 100. It's reasonable to say that 55-16 = Spurs' capability but not so.

    Gearing up for the playoffs.

    To quote Carlito Brigante:

"You can't buck it the whole time."

This team was bound to take some time off here and there with the age and wear. If Timmy, TP, and Manu were logging 42 minutes a game like Dirk, JoshHo, and Terry - the record would probably be better, but at what cost?

You know... I think Longhorn Spurs fans would say the same thing. First the football meltdown after a championship season followed by a no-show in the NCAA tourney by a team with the best player in the country on it. Interesting... it all goes back to Manu.

I like your point about the close games but you need to let the excuses about Howard's dunk die already. If you think that's the last spectacular game winner that he'll have in his long NBA career, then you're not giving the guy the credit he deserves.

As long as Howard has team mates who can get the ball anywhere near the basket, he will bury alley-oops 99 out of 100 times.

    Take it easy on Jeff...

The Orlando loss was a fluke loss on a fluke dunk by a fluke player.
Just ask the unheard of players before the Spurs series such as Josh Howard and Jason Terry. Who really even knew who those guys were before the Spurs series last year?
The reason I called Howard and his dunk a fluke is because of how much hype he got for making one dunk. He isn't a brilliant or great player right now, at least.
    Classics...
