this is kind of contradictory. Because if Duncan had not said this to the media, there would not have been as much of an outrage. and I do beleive it is the public outrage that made Stern make that decision.

kinda weird. kinda like when you rat on your boss, but then get fired for being a rat.
    You're right.

In the end, its best Tim said what he said.

Oh there absolutely would have been an investigation. Duncan could have said nothing to the Media and the team could have still filed a complaint to the league office. And even without a complaint, this was a nationally televised game between two powerhouses.

Have Tim get another $50,000 ready and we can get rid of Bavetta and Salvatore.
I'm sure he'd pay a million or two for those 2 refs to be fired. That would guarantee at least 2 more championships.

    $25,000 is like $25,000...

That's $25,000 less in Collector knives, PS3 and X-Box 360 accessories for Mr Duncan...

If it wasn't a tax writeoff for money he isnt going to see anyway...

If it actually affects him, it will be because he will have to give ANOTHER 25k to his foundation to make up for this 25k that the league charity robbed him of

Considering it got rid of Crawford, all the other teams in the playoffs should pony-up and help Tim pay that fine.

Duncan's making $17,429,673 this year. That's 0.143% of his salary.

The average American makes $36,764 (as of 2002). That would be the same as $52 for the average American.

Update...Duncan's fine is for "verbal abuse" of an official. Interesting. I thought it would be for saying what he did to the media. I guess because it was the truth (Crawford was wired so they could hear what he said) they just fined him for the POS comment after the ejection.

I love how this worked out. Duncan was right, he stood up and spoke out and the league backed him up. I guess our small market low key guy does bring this league some money.

I'm sure Stern and ABC friends were pretty upset that a marquee game between the 2 tops teams on ABC national on a Sunday afternoon as NBA is trying to ramp up playoff interest was ruined by a referee.

The affair is another highly public black eye for the NBA.

Cir stances aside, it was refreshing to see Tim so animated and enjoying himself on the bench.. something I'd like to see more often (hopefully without any ejections attached). The game is supposed to be fun for the players.

On a larger stage, I think this incident will give pause to the refs to be more prudent when making their calls. This is a slap in the face of JC and the guy still doesn't seem repentant. I think he's a marked man and if he does come back to officiate next year and crosses the line one more time, his contract doesn't get renewed.

Not as bad as it could have been. The league had to do something.
Who gets the last laugh, now?

Duncan can well afford $25,000 while Pal Joey will lose a significant amount of dough out of the earnings of an NBA ref. after being suspended from the playoff money.
