Other than David, who Simmons acknowledged was his best teammate, has anyone from the Spurs made a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd team All NBA playing with Tim here in SA?

    Nope...

Tim is what Reggie Jackson claimed to be: the straw that stirs the drink.

LMAO at anyone blaming the "boring" label on the small market.

Penny Haradaway and Shaq played in a TINY market and got tons of love.

Is Sacramento a big market? Why all the love for the kings in their heyday, then?

Kareem played in the second LARGEST market and was still considered "boring".

    Consider THAT Theory debunked.
Alright first I thought it was Penny Hardaway, and Orlando thought its considered a small market it's a city that has always garnered a ton of attention because Disney is there along with everything else that city has, it gets a ton of visitors every year, and when it was the Shaq and Penny show in town even more so. Consider that the Kings play in the CAPITAL city of CALIFORNIA. Last time I checked California was the most populated state in the country, that coupled with the fact of how big the Lakers/Kings rivalry was and that a lot of Californians just jump from team bandwagon to bandwagon I'm sure there were more Kings fans in those day than there are Spurs fans right now. I cant really speak on Kareem but I have never heard anyone talk about him as boring. I know now he's considered one of the greatest ever so if he was called boring by a lot of people in his day, hopefully Tim is seen in the same light down the road.

This is why I don't understand why some members of the Spurs F.O are getting so much love from other NBA teams. You'd look good to if you had Timmy on your team.

I actually thought Kareem is routinely hailed as the greatest of all time, and even 18 years after his retirement, still get gets mentioned all the time. His performance in 85 after the memorial day massacre, his skyhook, the hug Magic gave him after Magic's first game, his dominance as Lew Alcindor, every basketball fan knows about these things.
Same will Russell, he opened up to the media the last few years, but was always considered aloof and unfriendly to the media, but nobody ever considered him boring.
Of course Shaq and Penny were not boring, they have a game that any fan can understand. Drive and dish, pick and roll, how hard is it? Shaq with his constant quotes, Penny with Lil Penny, they enjoy the limelight, and they were good at it. Same with the Kings team, they play a brand of motion offense that creates a lot of points. Fans equate scoring to excitment, which I do not get, and the Kings score a lot of points. We are seeing the same thing with the Suns, and the Warriors now, and to a lesser extent Bosh. Putting the ball in the basket is what most fans came to see, they thought that missing a layup against the Spurs is boring, because the basket didn't go through the hole, but it was because of a carefully designed defense.
What one person find boring, another find exciting. You may find it boring, but I find it exciting, so don't tell me how to think.

I think the lack of attention for Tim Duncan comes partly from consistency but mostly because he doesn't promote himself on ads that run on national TV. If TD was regularly selling tennis shoes and cell phones and breakfast cereal and giving in-depth exclusive interviews about how hard it was to overcome the struggles of his childhood or something like that, I guarantee you he'd be selling more jerseys and getting love from the NY-based press.

Obviously his ego doesn't need the extra attention, beyond the validation of being an excellent, excellent player, which makes him one of the most level-headed, sane people on the public stage.

The NBA doesn't promote defense, ever. When is the last time you heard one of the DPoY candidates mentioned as the highlight of a game? Camby never gets mentioned, Duncan does somewhat because he's a former 2 time MVP. The players that score are the ones getting touted as the "great thing to see". So people want to see them. "Truth" in advertising: We tell you what to like, and you will like it.

Look at the way the NFL promotes defensive teams. They're perceived as ferocious hitting machines, fearless dominating squads that any fan would love to see.

Defense makes the same kind of exciting plays in basketball, but you'd never know that by the advertising, which is not just offensively focused, but commercials for the NBA now closely resemble And1 mixtape previews. If the NBA would stress execution instead of sensationalism, I think it would fare much better. And as a side bonus we wouldn't have 5,000,000 children on the playground who want to be the next great scoring leader with no D.

what i find appealing about duncan is he is happy in his own skin. he's true to himself and those that are close to him. no false bravado, no preening for cameras, no sound bites. that's refreshing to me. got to work, get the job done, go home.

What are u saying? If Orlando didn't have Disneywolrd or Sacramento wasn't the CAPITAL (but not nearly the largest city) of California then those two teams would have been labeled "boring"???

btw - a local AZ sports writer brought up something thats going to give me nightmares:

"Eighty-one points; that's enough for us," Spurs guard Tony Parker said, proving my point. "We just have to play defense. We have to shut them down."

Ugh. You can only imagine the letdown in league offices if the ratings bonanza of the Suns vs. the Dallas Mavericks ends up as the methodical Spurs vs. the plodding Jazz.

It's not the ing Spurs fault the mavs lost in the first round....

anyway, Suns vs. Jazz won't be any better to watch.

Suns vs Spurs is the ... again, the 2nd round = WCF.

    Tim is a rare human.

A superstar in his sport, who doesn't demand to be treated like royalty.

What was it Lebron said? His goal in life was to the the richest person alive, or something like that.

I suspect Tims goal in life was to win championships.

BTW Lebron will never reach that goal. At least not as a ballplayer. Better head back and get himself one of those MBAs if that is his goal.

He said he wanted to be a "global icon" and the worlds first billionare athlete.

He will probably reach both goals, but won't the be the "first". Tiger will be a billionare before he will.

It was the shaving cream commercial. Everyone that isn't a Spurs fan made their final decision on Duncan after that and never bothered to watch. How some people claim to be basketball fans I'll never understand.
