Dallas has a ass load of crime. But not very ghetto.
LA is where the bosses hold it down!

Ive been to LA. Its mostly rich people in BMWs
A lot of them are just wannabe rich with BMWs on credit. But you are right - there's a whole of a lot of BMWs there. And there's a lot of money.
Okay, I have to admit that made me laugh.
I went to one here last Thursday. I don't know about San Antonio, but they are freaking awesome here!
Thanks for the posts - HEB carries produce and we're tired of it.![]()
Sapphire has the 411 on the Farmers Market...Thanks!!![]()
Yes, they really do.
what exactly is farmer's market.. do they just sell fruits and veggies? and is this at good prices? sounds like my kind of place. i live real close to St. Matthews did someone say there is one by there?
A PLACE WHERE HILLBILLIES GO TOA
I thought it was for hippies.![]()
The stuff is usually very fresh, and sometimes cheaper than the grocery store. The prices vary, but the freshness is what sells it, IMO. Plus a lot of them will let you sample before you buy. It's fun to go, even if you don't buy.
I got it from another board that I post/lurk on. Seems like everyone is fed up with our poor produce selection. Someone did mention that Central Market supposedly has a really nice selection, but it's way out of my way! Anybody know if it's true?
thanks.. i'm gonna try to check one out. it's hard to find good produce and Whole Foods prices are ridiculous
where is Central Market?
On Broadway--I just passed by there yesterday but had no time to stop. I just can't remember if it's in Alamo Heights or just past it (going towards 410 it's on the left).
Thanks Sapphire - I had found that list earlier and was hoping that some people had been to some of those markets so I wouldn't get there and find out it didn't exist anymoreThat would be my luck.
I'm so sick of the nasty ass HEB produce by me - I'm tired of paying Central Market prices for stuff that's pretty average, and both of the HEB locations by me have recently had such lovely stock that included rot and flies. I don't understand why the farther south you get in this city the tier the produce gets (well, I do understand, but I don't approve).
Spurfect - Central Market is at Broadway and Patterson, a couple blocks north of Hildebrand.
The farmers markets here are probably more expensive than most grocery stores, but the stuff is WAY better! Fresh strawberries. Fresh sweet corn. Fresh veggies. They have other stuff too like pastries and cheeses. I bought some hazelnut buckwheat pancake mix at the one last week.
They're good but they're also very expensive.
oooh sounds like Central Market is close to my work. thanks ladies! I can check it out during my lunch hour![]()

they basically have fresh produce. i don't know how they're labeled in SA or wherever, but here in _allas they're called "farm merchants". these guys are the very same farmer that you buy from. if you buy from a "produce dealer" you're basically buying where HEB or your normal supermarket buys from. all that stuff is irradiated and soaked in pesticides and is obviously bad for you. hopefully i won't set off a heated debate with that sentence. "farm merchants" pick all their stuff the day or night before and is very fresh and free of all that bad stuff. there's no need to preserve it when its moving no more than 100 miles. you just need to ask who you buy from and pay attention to the boxes they have their veggies/fruits in. if the tomatoes look immaculate and shine so bright you have to wear shades, it's probably not picked the day before. prices are about the same, but it's worth it.
Central market has a fantastic selection but overpriced.
You can also buy your lunch there. I love central market but don't make it a habit of shopping there. They are turning the HEB on Blanco into an HEB Plus which is supposed to carry more central market type stuff.
