I can vouch for that, I rarely have to bag myself.
Heavy on top of my produce pisses me off, and I don't care if the esteemed NorCal thinks I'm picky. I definitely bag my own groceries if there's not a bagger there, because I think I'd look pretty stupid just standing there staring at my groceries like I'm not sure what happens next. (I also buy a whole cartload full of crap at a time, so maybe there's a difference between that and having, like, 6 things that the checker can throw in a bag for you when he's done ringing).
I can vouch for that, I rarely have to bag myself.
sometimes self-check out lanes can be a bad thing. damn i wish I would have saved my self-check out lane rant i posted on another board.
Oh there's definitely some drawbacks to the self-checkout lane....like when you get the "unexpected item, please remove" message, so you remove it and then immediately get a "item removed, please put back into bagging area" and u go around in that circle for eternity....but I think self-checkout technology has gotten alot better and most of the time there's no problems at all with it.
my rant wasn't even about the machine itself.. it was about the people that use it!![]()
That ain't no lie..... Want to watch your temper flare up? Get behind a technology challenged customer in a self-checkout lane and watch them as they scan... all though it didn't beep but they don't know it's supposed to so they place it in the bag... then the scanner tells them that an "unidentified item was placed in the bagging area, please scan again"... so they get all of the items out of the bag, and one by one check them off the screen as they place the items back in the bag until they find the item that was not scanned...
I agree that self-checkout is the most ingenious POS invention of our lifetime and if a store has one I almost always use it. But I have to scan the lines for "self-checkout" savvy looking people before I feel comfortable that my blood pressure isn't about to sky rocket.
Haha the worst is the old person who has no clue how to use it, gets 12 different error messages, and as they give up and go to a human checker, they kindly informs you that the machine is "broken".
My HEB I don't have to bag and they do a pretty good job. I've done it at Target before.
you guys bring up good points about the self check out and is exactly the type of stuff I was talking about. I'll try to recreate some of my rant here:
SELF CHECK OUT LANE PEEVES
if you're old, don't use a self check out. the technology is too advanced for you, you are slow, and you will most likely try to pay with a check. go to a real life person cashier
if you have to use a CART, do not go to the self check out lane. you have too much stuff. self check out lanes should be for people with hand held baskets. ****this could go the other way around though. if you have a cart and only have a few items that are big, that's ok. if you have a handheld basket that is jam packed with items, then that is not ok.
moms, it's not cute nor is it a game to have your kids help you with the self check out machine. they are too slow, will mess up, and might even spill something. don't do it. buy them a playskool cashier machine.
if you still cannot grasp how to use a self check out machine, just don't use it, period. go to a cashier, they are more your speed.
that's all i can remember, for now![]()

I got so tired of waiting for people in the self checkout I stopped using it.
Another rule, if you have a very light weight item be sure you press down when you are placing it in the bag or the stupid machine will keep saying, "Please place the item in the bag."
It's supposed to be 20 items or less. Sometimes if there is no line and I have a cart with 20 items or so I will use it but only cause I am good at it.if you have to use a CART, do not go to the self check out lane. you have too much stuff. self check out lanes should be for people with hand held baskets. ****this could go the other way around though. if you have a cart and only have a few items that are big, that's ok. if you have a handheld basket that is jam packed with items, then that is not ok.![]()
We usually buy groceries at walmart just because it's so much cheaper...but you pretty much bag yourself...and they have no sorting table thing..just stack up and you gotta get it in the bag quick...i hate walmart, but my wife refuses to go anywhere else for groceries.
I call this 'Power Shopping'. I usually go when we are absolutely out of every thing. I've tried the once a week shopping...it just doesn't work for me. The checkers always ask me if I have a big family
And HEB is pissing me off because they tend to replace some of the national brands with their products. Or they discontinue carrying it all together. I don't mind buying some of their stuff, but I do have a loyalty to certain brands.
TheTruth is noticeably absent from this thread.![]()
You should have bagged them while your Mommy paid.
I have noticed that with HEB too. Do you ever shop at Costco's? Now that we are closer to one Costco is my new best friend.
anyone who doesn't is either* 1. lazy 2. stubborn
* handicap people don't apply
I do it if there's no one taking care of it.
I'm not baggin my unless I'm in a self checkout lane.
I pay those s to bag my , so bag it.
I purposely avoid Costco cuz I KNOW I'd end up buying a lot of crap I don't need. Costco is more dangerours than my beloved Target.
I sometimes shop at Target, but they don't always have everything, but they are quicker to get new products than HEB is.
Did you sleep with them or somethin? just sayin...
huh?
I bag my stuff all the time. It gets done right then. And someone explain why it takes an Act of Congress to get them to use paper bags- even when you ask for them.
I know at HEB they have a whole thing, certain items can't go with others, when they have boxes they make some kind of wall and put things in the middle, bread and eggs of course go by themselves, etc...
wait... there's bagging machines? wtf? do you live in the hills or something?
