Mike Brown said, "I'm in it to win it!" Nothing wrong with that.

I think Hillary Clinton said that, too.

Spurs vs. "Spurs of the East" in the Finals. The master will show the grasshopper how it's done.
Lets not forget Pop did beat his master in '05. For Spurs sake lets hope history does not repeat for former assistants beating head coaches.

    AJ beat Pop.

But Mike Brown is not AJ.

And Pop has the personnel this year.

I have no problem with Mike's answer. Just like the Spurs enjoyed the moment for a day or two before they started studing both teams, the Cavs earned a hard fought ECC and deserve to be in the moment with out regard for the Spurs and the finals.

As a Spurs lifer, I am just glad the Spurs blood lines have been represented by coaches leading their teams to the NBA finals every year since 2003, including both coaches of both teams in 2005 and 2007.

Despite all the hate expressed for the Spurs, it is clear their corporate knowledge rules the NBA much more than the average fan has a clue.

Spurs and Cavs Rock! Lets enjoy the moment for the Cavs and get ready to rumble in support of our Spurs!

Why should he? They just won the ECF and are celebrating. He can start worrying about the opponent tomorrow.
Being a Pop disciple you would think he would at least give an appropriate answer. Even Avery didn't go nuts, he at least acted in a professional manner.

If you think about it, other than winning championships, the proudest moment for a coach has to be when a protege wins.

Other than LBJ, the #2 story of this series is going to be Mike and Pop, and this will only help to cement Pop's reputation.

Yeah but AJ wasnt an assistant coach with SA but I guess we can say we have problems with Ex-Spurs and dont forget Danny Ferry is the GM of SA even though that really has nothing to do with the game. I think I am just overthinking this series too much.

The Cavs are entirely too happy about winning the Leastern Conference, including the coach.

No disrespect intended towards Mike Brown, but Lebron makes him look like a much better coach than he really is.

Thats pretty obvious, He's team was up double digits in the closing minutes, why let your #1 player stayed in the game and risk a possible injury? Same with Flip Saunders, He let Chauncy played upto last second of the game. Show some respect to your players. That's why I like Popovich, if the game is out of hand win or loose, He'll make sure the best players will be out of the game before the final buzzer.

I thought the whole Cavs thing was cute, like a high school team winning their league. Nothing wrong with that, no one expected them to win. Brown was...kind of inarticulate, but who cares. Them beating the Pistons was like us beating the Lakers. Pretty big deal!

Mike Brown is not a good coach. Trying to compare him to Pop or LB is laughable.

In terms of the question, i thought the answer was rude. He could have said "Hey pop is great but i'm gonna rip his head off."

What's with all the whining? Spurs Fans have a disrespect complex... I'm sure he'll give plenty of props to pop during the series, let him enjoy his win. Save the whining for the series when bron gets all the calls. Is this what happens when Spurs don't play and there's no calls to cry about? We start whining because the opposing coach said he's in it to win?

I thought his answer just was, kind of dumb.

I don't think it was a matter of disrespect. I just think his answer was just kind of lame, but eh, he was just trying to join along with the crowd's enthusiasm.

    Disagree totally.

The question was--how special will it be for him to be going up against his good friend Greg Popovich.

He just went nuts and would not even address the question--

He was probably caught up in the moment.

That can be said of all great players.

    Pop has Timmy...had DRob before.

    Phil had MJ, Kobe, Shaq.

    Riley had Tragic, Kareem, Wade

Pop understands it though, unlike Phil. He has always said that great players make great coaches...he never tries to become the center of attention...never tries to make himself look bigger than a Duncan etc.

Pop gets it, that is why he is great.

First of all, Mike Brown is a very good coach. Their team defense performs very well despite a distinct absence of very good individual defenders on that team. Look at their principal players:

    LeBron
    Gooden
    Hughes
    Ilgauskas
    Pavlovic
    Varejao
    Gibson
    Marshall
    Snow

LeBron will get a couple of steals, but his man defense is below average. Gooden is an average defender. Ilgauskas is slow. Hughes is a pretty good defender. Pavlovic is above average. Varejao is active, but his flops can go either way. Gibson and Marshall aren't good defensively, and Snow used to be good defensively but he isn't any longer.

Yet as a team, Cleveland keeps points and FG% down. They obviously execute the defense v ery well, and that's good coaching.

To the main point, Brown was excited and in the moment. And he played to the crowd. Sure, Pop wouldn't have handled it that way, but Brown isn't Pop. I'll give up my kidneys if Brown doesn't praise Pop quite a bit in the next few days.

I wouldn't read much into something like that.

    obviously, they'll both be dissapointed.
