How about I tape myself showcasing off my basketball skills/trashtalking and Kori with her inside connections send it to the WNBA as a challenge?

To Spurschick: The reason I say that I can kick a WNBA players ass is because IMO Women's basketball is a joke, but that's my opnion.

Well there's this chick at my school that averaged like 25 ppg and plays for some junior olympic team, she could very well be on her way to the WNBA but I don't know. I do know that I can beat her because i've played with her before. I agree with E20, women's basketball is pretty much a joke compared to men's.

Well, as long as we're making ridiculous guarantees from a safe little place where we'll never have to back it up. I would trounce Tony Parker in one on one.

One of these days you're going to read through this thread and see how ridiculous you sound.

You're en led to not like women's basketball, but why is it such a nuisance to you? Is someone pulling a Clockwork Orange on you... strapping you in a chair and forcing your eyes open to watch endless hours of women's basketball? You are certainly not the only person on the planet that doesn't care for it, but most of those folks just don't watch it. You're acting like someone is forcing it on you.

If you can point me to a link to an article that states that women's basketball is comparable to men's, I'd love to read it. Every player I've heard talk about the WNBA say that it is very different than the men's game.

There are football fans that can't stand Arena Football because it is different from the NFL. Different doesn't mean bad, unless you're an insecure male that can't stand to see a woman playing a professional sport and making more money than they do.

My aunt was a center for Memphis in the early 1980's at 6"4". She is a better basketball player than I am, even now. (She's nearly 50; I am 35.) However, she obviously couldn't post up almost any NBA player.

The men's and women's games are fundamentally different becuase of the height disparity. If they lowered the rims to be prorportional to the height of the average WNBA player, I don't think the leagues would look very different after a few years.

The most basic skills like running, passing, dribbling, and jump shooting are more or less gender neutral. (That is, the physiological difference between men and women is not significant enough to affect these skills.) That leaves jumping and the height disparity. The problem is that Americans mistake jumping and height for actual basketball skills, thinking that basketball means playing above the rim.

My impression has always been that women's NCAA basketball is more similar to the European approach. That is, a lot of time is spent on practice and skills development, because the players are around long enough for teams to invest in them. This is a major problem with men's NCAA basketball, becuase of players leaving early and playing too many games. (Big programs now play over 30 games pretty routinely.) There really isn't time for the men's programs.

Further proof that there are many representatives of my gender who are complete embarrassments. Imbeciles. It's a freaking miracle that they can type.

I don't like the WNBA. And I don't watch it. I don't about it. It has nothing to do with me and I have nothing to do with it. That's how it's supposed to work.

Instead, we get a bunch of slack-jawed, single-celled, mysogynistic faces determined to put "wimmin in ther play-ece".

I would love to see this one-on-one between a WNBA player and one of these Backwoods Otises. Of course it would get ugly fast because after the WNBA player reeled off the first five points of the game, B. Otis would inevitably resort to dirty play - knees, elbows, punching - and try to play it off as "physical basketball".

Also: in the highly unlikely event that you are good enough to actually win this one-on-one contest without Karl Malone antics, that makes you a really good basketball player. It doesn't at all mean that the woman sucks.

What I hate about women's games is that there is no post-up game like Duncan's or Shaq's. I look at the TV and there are five guys, all playing 20 feet from the rim. Nobody's guarding the paint. And what's up with all those threes?

    Nope.

Unless it's the point that some men are, and will remain, assholes (and probably virgins to boot).

I never understood the point of "I'm better than a woman, so only I should be able to play sports." It's bull .

Maybe someday these people will have a daughter, and their at udes will change. That will probably require the ability to refer to woman as something besides " es and hoes", of course.

I don't think anyone has ever once suggested that the WNBA teams are as good as NBA teams or that WNBA players are as good as NBA players. I think you have to consider it a different sport (albeit one in which a similar game is played). For instance, I don't think you'd ever hear anyone say try to argue that the Dallas Cowboys are better basketball players than the San Antonio Spurs; nor would you hear anyone argue that the Spurs are better football players than the Cowboys. Women's basketball is a different sport than men's basketball. To try to compare the two is ridiculous, because the games are played so very differently and emphasize different attributes in terms of deriving success.

I feel really bad for any jackass who's so insecure in his masculinity that he feels threatened enough by the women's game to either want it shut down or to believe that he is immediately superior to most of the women who play that game. It must suck to always need to have your ego bolstered by bull superiority plays. What difference does it make if a 5'9" guy can beat a 6'2" woman in basketball? (I suppose I'm glad we'll never see that contest take place, because I'd hate to see the reaction to the guy's humiliation in losing that contest). It's a different sport.

I think the point is that, compared to others who play that sport (women's basketball), the WNBA players are the best on the planet. If you don't like the sport, don't watch it. If you don't like the women, don't watch them.

If you can't handle the fact that women are no longer subservient in our society, seek help.

Anyway, it's not like WNBA players are getting paid the same as their male counterparts.

So, don't worry, "the man" is already doing a great job keeping those woman-folk in their place!

Indeed -- the WNBA salary cap per team is something like $725,000 this year.

    By comparison:

The NBA average salary in 2006-07 was $4,119,271 or more than 5 1/2 times what an entire WNBA roster is paid for a season.

The NBA vet minimum for a single player is worth more than an entire team's payroll in the WNBA.

An NBA rookie signed to the minimum contract and paid for the entire season makes more than half of what an WNBA roster is paid.

Every Spur, other than James White, made at least $200,000 more than the entire Silver Stars roster can be paid this season -- not counting playoff shares.

That's two different games, that's all. You can't compare them.

the reasons why you like, or not, wnba are different than the ones why you like, or not, nba.

Though, I think wnba players shouldn't try to imitate nba players at ude but just developp their own game.

People who watch women doesn't expect them to play or behave like the men, but just act like women, with their qualities and weaknesses, who play basketball.

PS: Please female posters, don't pay too much attention to the insecure, "I can't dunk my little sister", little boys who spreads out their testosterone all over this thred

While I was never that great at hoops (only played on high school team), I had the opportunity to play several pick-up games (while at UT) with 4 of the girls from the NCAA championship team (mid-80's) and they were impressive and fun to play with. We won our share of games against all-male teams. They were incredibly, fundamentally-sound players.

WNBA is pretty garbage. They're guards are my height and I would smash on there guards. As long as they don't have like a guard who's like 6'3"- 6'5", I doubt they do, I'd smash on them.
Diana Taurasi is 6ft tall and she would destroy you. So would Sue Bird and she is only 5'9.
