When the animal is almost as big as the kid, there is going to be serious problems if it decides it wants a bite. My cat shreds my arms when he gets too aggressive when playing (hates belly rubs for some reason) and those rabbit kicks have left a ton of scars. I'm sure he could rip a 2 year old's abdomen open if they got into a position to allow it, and he is just a cat.
