It's got waaaaay more than that.
You should try it, you'd like it.
Damn you all, now I want some Mexican food.
Hmmm, Las Palapas is open all night? Anybody in?![]()
It's got waaaaay more than that.
You should try it, you'd like it.
, go downtown or through the West side and just find a truck.
it's usually just a thin layer spread on the bun, but you can always get it without the beans. still very good!
Dude, I'd go but I'm broke.
Italians have something called a torta, as well, and I could sure go for some right now. It's like a frittata/quiche type thing.
kori just stole all the attention i was getting from spurfect![]()
There's a woman in my neighborhood who goes door to door selling her homemade tamales, but she had already passed my house when I got home. I should have chased that down.
Isn't that Spanish?
I've gone to a couple of tapas restaurants, and even an Argentinan one, and they all had "tortas" on the menu. I ordered one not knowing that it was basically a flat quiche.
That's funny.
My mother sent me some tamales from the valley with my brother earlier this week.
They were chicken and beans.
They didn't make it past the week.
They may have it there, too. You always see it at Italian/Sicilian delis and at all my family gatherings though.
The wife of one of my dad's employees makes tamales every Friday. If I'm ever in town to see my dad, I always wind up coming back with 3-4 dozen.
When I worked at the UStar, all the staffers would tear them up come Monday night.
The tortas that they sell here don't have beans they just have carne al pastor with avocado, tomato, onions and jalapeno peppers; the beans usually come in a cup
Funny, I posted this in The Q earlier tonight.
--------
I met her at the mercado, she was buying avocados
Man, she really turned me on
She reached for my pepper, I grabbed her tomatoes
I knew, it wouldn't be very long
She went to the mesa, I grabbed my cerveza
I got the onions and lemons
The way she looked at me, I could clearly see
It wouldn't be very long
Guacamole, GUACAMOLE, Guacamole, GUACAMOLE
We'd be makin' guacamole all night long.
Guacamole, GUACAMOLE, Guacamole, GUACAMOLE
We'd be makin' guacamole all night long.
She headed for the line, we fell in right behind
Man, she sure looked good to me
She reached for her money, I said "Wait a minute, honey!"
"I believe, this one is one me."
So we got in my pickup, we started to backup
We headed on down the road
We went to mi casa, tortillas de masa
And made guacamole all night long
Guacamole, GUACAMOLE, Guacamole, GUACAMOLE
We'd be makin' guacamole all night long.
Guacamole, GUACAMOLE, Guacamole, GUACAMOLE
We'd be makin' guacamole all night long.
Tortas are the BEST!!! I grew up eating them. My favorite is to have the Al Pastor (shredded pork) or Cochinita Pibil (roast pork). I remember going to big ass markets in Mexico City as a kid and buying the best tortas.
In SA you can go to any Taqueria Jalisco and get one. They even have locations on the norfside now. There is a place at the intersection of Nogalitos and Zarzamora called Los Valles that has good ones. You can also get a mango agua fresca to go with it. If you're a northside gringo and are afraid to venture into the souf and wessides of town you can go to Beto's on Broadway in the 09er part of town. They're pretty good there too but in that 09er kind of way.
Provecho!![]()
Someone told me a torta is like a mexican hamburger.
I don't know how authentic-like the ones at Chacho's are, but User usually gets a ham & cheese (no beans) one there and it's really good. Is it just because of the type of bread they use?
Tortas rock.
Oh wait...im a white guy, I don't know what they are

Having lived in CA, AZ, and TX for the past 24 years, I can honestly say that I've never heard of a torta either!
It looks like a Mexican sloppy joe![]()
No freaking way... you gotta have the carrots that have been sitting in jalapeno juice and are therefore slightly y. Those freaking rule.
carne asada + aguacate + lettuce + tomato + refried beans + torta roll + dos XX = the
Al pastor shredded? Whenever I get al pastor over in Mexico, it's usually a huge chunk of meat spinning on a rotisserie and the cook takes a big knife and starts just hacking pieces off until my tortilla or roll is filled. Out here in SoCal and in Baja, carnitas are the shredded pork.
All these threads on food are wrecking havoc on my diet!
