Consider the fact that games involving the Lakers were the highest rated on ABC last year.
This is a skewed stat based on the size of the LA media market.....plus the bigger issue is how much more of a bad team can a casual fan take? Just cause its the "Lakers" ABC is banking on hype and not the quality of the product. And that is ABC's own undoing when they complain about low ratings in the finals....

So LA has a big media market. Doesn't mean the rest of the league should be subjected to the Lakers suckage.

And honestly, if that's what a highly watched/rated team looks like when people are calling the Spurs ratings cancer, I'll take the ratings cancer.

No- it is not a skewed stat- it is a truthful stat and the whole point IS the size of their media market. Why would ABC want to telecast games that fewer people will watch? Spurs fans are paranoid about this.

It is why I understand why the Raptors are never on national US television- even though they had a better record than a lot of those teams that are on a bunch. It is TV- it is ALL about ratings. Those TV contracts pay big money to the NBA. ABC does not show that many games and so they choose the ones that they think will draw the most viewer interest. Like it or not, the Spurs don't draw national viewer interest and the local market is small.
